Episode 3.02:

Trouble in Paradise

Donna is sitting alone in her bungalow, in a candle-lit room, watching the video of her marriage. She's getting more and more depressed. Brenda drops by to see how Donna is doing. Brenda, seeing the wedding on Donna's TV, wants to know if she can watch the wedding with Donna. Brenda is very sorry about missing the wedding. They watch it. Brenda enjoys it hugely. Brenda decides that David and Donna belong together and that she's going to get them back together whether they like it or not. David and Donna represent first love conquering all to Brenda and that's a very important concept to her.

Kelly leaves a flirtatious Brandon to go to work and runs into David in the kitchen. She asks if he's spoken to Donna. He says no. Kelly leaves. David sees an ad for the store and realises he should call Donna.

Carly is having a dull day at work until Mark decides to liven things up and take her out for the day. They'll get going as soon as Carly drops Zack off at school.

Brandon comes upon David looking through the classifieds for a new apartment. Brandon attempts to console David and talk him into doing something to improve the situation.

Brenda begins to hatch her plan to get David and Donna together. She sends a bouquet of flowers to David at the paper office. She writes Donna's wedding vows in the card.

Janet makes an appointment with the doctor for Maddy. Maddy may have a cold. Janet won't be able to come into the office today. Apparently, she hasn't been in all week. Steve asks Janet if it's because of the fight she had with David. She admits that it is. Steve tells her that she had no right telling David that he should forgive Donna. Janet thinks that Donna made a mistake and should be forgiven. Janet points Steve's somewhat less than perfect record in fidelity. Steve points out that it's not Janet's decision whether or not David should forgive Donna. Janet reluctantly agrees and tells Steve that she'll call David later to apologise. She's still not coming into the office because she wants to stay home and take care of Maddy if she's sick. She also seems to be thinking about her dead child again.

Lexi is in her usual bad mood. She's ready to lunch with her new pool guy (who she's made sure is cute !). She calls Amy to ask her to pick up a dress at Now Wear This. She decides on a tight black dress. Lexi calls Michael and is astounded when a woman picks up the phone and tells her that she's Michael's girlfriend. Lexi, hurt and angry that Michael would have a girlfriend other than her, quickly makes an enemy of the woman and hangs up the phone.

Kelly and Megan are sitting around the office. Things are extremely slow. They are so slow that Kelly tells Megan that she may have to let her go if things don't pick up soon. Kelly goes home for lunch.

At the paper, David is just sitting in a funk until the flowers Brenda sent arrive. David reads the message Brenda wrote in the card, thinks it's from Donna and excitedly leaves the office. He gives Steve the flowers to give to Janet.

Alone in the store, Clare decides to call Jake. She attempts to make plans with jake but Jake is full of excuses as to why he can't see Clare. Clare is understandably annoyed and confused.

Back at the paper, Steve sorts through the mail and notices a pamphlet for foster care. An idea strikes him and he leaves the office.

Kelly drops by the store. Clare updates her on how Donna is doing and on Clare's frustrating situation with Jake. Kelly tells Clare that Jake tended to pull away for a while when she was dating him too. It was part of the reason they broke up. Clare decides to wait and see what happens. Kelly leaves.

Valerie wakes up at lunch time. She's in the beach house and hung over. She's been drinking a lot lately to calm her nerves and relax herself. Kelly expresses concern for her, especially when she notices that Val's been through seven liqour bottles in a few days, but Val snaps at her and drives her away.

Jake and Dylan go surfing at the beach.

Kelly returns to the office and updates Megan on the situation with Val. She mentions her worry that Val may be having psychological problems again. A man walks into the office.

Brandon drops by Kelly's office and discovers Kelly talking with a man he knows all too well. The man is Peter Kanis-a vicious killer who Brandon helped the police catch when he lived in Washington and a man who should still be in jail. Brandon calls him outside. There Kanis lets Brandon know that he's found out everything that there is to know about Brandon. Including everything about his loved ones. Brandon angrily pushes Kanis against the wall but Kelly breaks them up. Kanis leaves and Brandon realises that he has investigating to do. He goes off to start.

Megan and Lexi are talking. Lexi has found out that her pool guy wasn't as handsome as she thought he was going to be. Megan gently tries to urge her to go back to Michael. She also tries to urge Lexi to be nicer to Val now that Megan knows that Val has some real problems. Lexi is not impressed.

Steve walks into W and W Child Services to learn more about taking in a foster child. The lady there gives him some pamphlets to bring home and talk about with Janet.

In New York, Gina is busily taking care of loose ends before she moves back to Beverly Hills.

Brandon calls Dylan. He asks him to come by and help him deal with the Kanis situation.

Gina discovers that a kitten has somehow made its way into her apartment. She decides to adopt it.

Kelly drops by her and Brandon's apartment and sees Brandon and Dylan already hard at work tracking down Kanis. Brandon explains to Kelly that the man she talked to was Kanis. Kelly's heard of him. Brandon explains how an article he wrote helped put Kanis behind bars. Brandon warns Kelly to be careful.

Donna is preparing for dinner with Janet and is surprised when David drops by. They talk for a little while and David thanks Donna for the flowers she sent him. When Donna tells David that she didn't send him any flowers, David gets angry, Donna gets confused and David storms out. Depressed, Donna cancels dinner with Janet. Brenda's plan has backfired spectacularly.

Val and Jen go to the rave. A guy catches Val's eye but she and Jen are too busy getting wasted to do anything to do anything about it. Later, Jen introduces Val to a group of people-including Clint, the guy who caught Val's eye. Jen leaves Val with them. Clint pulls out some ecstasy and gives some to the already bombed Val. Then they have sex in the back of Clint's car.

Carly has a fun evening with Mark, but once they get back home, she tells Mark about the one problem she had with the evening. Apparently, Mark had punched some guy in the face because he asked if he could buy Carly a drink. Mark is still touchy about that and they have an arguement about it, leaving Carly uneasy.

At Casa Walsh, Janet tells Steve that the doctor said that Maddy just had a cold. She adds that she left David a voice mail and that she's ready to come back to the office. Steve shows her the foster care information that he's gotten. Janet is definitely interested.

Val finally gets back to the apartment at 3 AM, after her one-night stand with Clint. She stumbles around the apartment, still blitzed. She trips over the coffee table and passes out.

While Zack gets ready for school, Carly calls Clare to ask if she can pick Zack up at school today. Carly is going to CU to register for a class to help her resurrect her dream of being a lawyer. She also updates Clare on the Mark situation. Then she takes Zack to school.

Brandon is having no luck finding out why Kanis has been released. He leaves his apartment. The detective in charge of the case, Brian Braddock, leaves a message on Brandon's machine saying that he doesn't know either.

Janet studies the adoption material throughly, trying to figure out what to do. She decides to postpone thinking about it by callin David to apologise. She gets Kelly, who's home sick. David is not there and Kelly and Janet update each other on what's happening with them. Kelly mentions her long-ago miscarriage to Janet and how it left it difficult for Kelly to have children. Kelly also mentions her unsuccessful try at adopting a child. Janet has a lot to think about.

David decides to suggest an evening out to Brandon and Steve. They agree to it and decide to invite Dylan (Noah's busy with Brenda). David calls Dylan, waking him up. Dylan sleepily agrees to come along.

Dylan is ready to go back to sleep but Brenda drops by. She wants to drag him into helping get David and Donna back together. Dylan feebly resists but, as usual, Brenda wins easily.

Lexi continues to interview pool cleaners.

Val wakes up and gets off the floor. She feels like crap. A knocking at the door has woken her up. It's Brandon. He's here to see what's wrong and to help but Val angrily drives him away.

Dylan contacts his FBI contact, Christine Pettit, to see if she can help with the Kanis situation.

Gina is still getting things together in New York and looking after her new kitten, Captain, when she recieves a threatening phone call from Kanis. She then gets a phone call from Dylan who explains the situation to the terrified Gina.

Kelly goes to work and tells Megan about the Kanis situation. Megan is terrified.

Carly goes to California University and picks up her registeration material.

Steve calls Janet to find out her opinion about the foster parent idea. She still doesn't know.

Dylan calls Brandon to let him know about Kanis calling Gina.

Amy and Lexi are eating at the Peach Pit. Amy admits that she's attracted to Mark. Lexi thinks she should go for it. Amy doesn't to break up Mark and Carly. Lexi can't figure out why.

Clare picks up Zack.

Kelly broods about the sad shape her business is in.

Carly picks up Zack at Clare's. Carly and Clare update each other on their men troubles.

After a little trouble, Janet suceeds in putting Maddy to sleep and starts to go over the adoption pamphlets.

While they're out on the town, the guys wander into the bar that Jennifer Mancini works at. David is very attracted to Jen. When Jen gets off work, David invites her to join them.

Jake wanders into the bar and joins everybody.

Amy and Lexi go to a club and meet Michael and his new girlfriend, Alaina. Lexi is, of course, furious with Michael for being out with Alaina.

The guys are all starting to be uncomfortable with how close David and Jen seem to be getting.

Jake wanders off with two "loose women".

Carly talks with Nat about her decision to go back to school. He's very supportive.

Jake starts to have sex with one of the "loose women" but something inside him won't let him do it. He leaves her.

The guys leave the bar and Jen offers to drive David home. Dylan tries to suggest that this is a bad idea but David is in no mood to listen.

Brandon, Dylan and Steve talk about what just happened with David and Jen. None of them really thinks it's a good thing.

David and Jen go to Michael's apartment (He'll be at the hospital all night). They have sex.

Donna calls David at Brandon's. Sadly, he's not there.
