Who was the first person you told when you got the part? "My dad. He had driven out here with me from Nashville for the screen test. He was in a meeting when I called, so I asked him if he wanted the good news or the bad new first. He said the good. I told him that I got the part - but he was driving back to Nashville by himself. Everyone in the meeting started cheering." Who was the most helpful to you during the first few days on the set? "Molly (Stanton, Charity). She went out of her way to help me and make sure I knew where everything was. I also had some early scenes with Lena (Cardwell, Simone), and she gave me great advice. She told me to just relex and be myself, and it really calmed my nerves." What was your first day like? "It was pretty crazy. I had a 6 a.m. call time; it seemed like alot then, but now I realize that that was nothing! It was a pretty awesome, easy day." Are there any similarities between you and Kay? "We both have alot of determination. The difference is, I ethically try my hardest, and Kay doesn't really seem to care about ethics." Had you watched the show before? "I watched it three or four times when it first debuted, then I got too busy." Were you nervous about being a recast? "A little, because I realize that the fans can get really attached to a particular actor or actress. But they have to realize I'm not here to take over Taylor Anne's (Mounts, Kay No. 1) or Gina's (May, Kay No.2) place. I am simply playing a role." Did you do any research to prepare for the role? "I brushed up on the show's history. I looked up who my parents and siblings would be. I found out who my best friend and love interest were. I didn't watch tapes of Taylor Anne's or Gina's performances, though. I didn't want to find myself trying to imitate them." What is your take on Kay? "She's very selfish, and very manipulative. She is motivated by love, however, and that is one of her redeeming qualities." Any ideas on how you want to spend the steady paycheck? "First, I [wanted] to get LASIK surgery on my eyes to correct my vision. Then I want to start a college fund for my nephews, and invest the rest. You never know what's going to happen, so I want to be wise about it." Back to Interviews |
