Information about the Show.....
Finders Keepers aired in 1987-1988 on Nickelodeon and resurfaced in a syndicated version in aired 1989. During the initial run on Nickelodeon, Wesley Eure hosted the show, and for the syndicated season, he was replaced by Larry Toffler.
Original host Wesley Eure seemed very relaxed while he was doing the show. He seemed to make the kids feel more "at home" (no pun intended) during the entire time they were on the set. His version of the show was slightly more slow-paced than the syndicated run, so this probably gave him more time to interact with the kids. Currently, Eure writes children's literature.
Larry Toffler hosted the show during its second year, and was notably louder and did things faster than Eure. Contestants on his version of the show often were able to search all of the rooms, not only because of the complete change in the Hidden Pictures round format, but also because Larry didn't waste much time getting things over with. He was more energetic than Eure was, and often personally did a lot more crazy things himself (or had more things happen to him) to amuse the contestants instead of relying mostly on verbal jokes like Wesley often did. One of the funniest things to happen to Larry is the time he got slimed in the house. Today, Toffler participates more in theatre, commercials, TV, and writing. The movie "The Settlement," starring Kelly McGillis and John C. Reilly, was based on his screenplay "Death Benefits." Larry was a Captain on the special 1970's trivia edition of Greed on March 7, 2000, and took the show for a $100,000 share in $500,000!
As mentioned above, the original announcer for Finders Keepers was Harvey, the semi-bald, mustachioed announcer from Double Dare fame. Though not as involved with FK as he was with DD, he was the only anouncer in the show's run to actually appear on the show, whether it be just at the end or to act as a spoiler for Wesley in the house. Once he appeared as a toilet paper-clad "mummy" in Dracula's Den during the show, then appeared again at the end of the show in Granny's Kitchen ironing his "wrapping." The producers helped Wesley finally get his revenge on Harvey later on - for the start of a Room-to-Room Romp (in the Birthday Party room), the first clue began: "Harvey is a party pooper..." Everyone laughed at him as Harvey looked at Wesley with an embarrassed look on his face, before Wesley finally finished the clue ("He forgot the ice-cream scooper.") Harvey left the show after Eure's first half-season.
The music used for Finders Keepers was very upbeat and jazzy, written by none other than Edd Kalehoff, who also did most of the music for The Price is Right, as well as many other game shows (including Nickelodeon's Double Dare. Some of these two shows' musical scores sounded very similar.
