Equals

Chapter 3: Showdown
Rated: PG-13
I don't own 'em!

Alan Crane sat at the kitchen table at the Crane mansion, drinking his orange juice. ‘I hate Ethan! Why out of all the women in the world he’s got to pick the one that I’ve been secretly in love with my whole life! Him and Theresa are getting married! I hate him! UHHHHH!’ he thought.

Claire walked in to find her brother, lost in thought. “Well aren’t you just so depressed, now that Eth took your obsession. Boo Hoo!” she said, mocking Alan. Alan and Claire never got along. She was constantly picking on him. Alan didn’t like his sister much either. She was always favoring Ethan, just like the rest of his family.

“Oh shut up, Claire. Why don’t you go home?” he said sarcastically. Claire smirked, “ Just because your miserable, and whatever, doesn’t mean you have to take it out on me. Besides, I’m not here to see you. The reason any of us are here is for Ethan and his fiancée Theresa.” Claire said, smiling. She rubbed her pregnant belly.

“Before you know it Ethan and Theresa are going to have a baby too. Won’t that be wonderful?” she said. Alan glared at her. “Leave me alone! Go find someone else to bother.” he said, angrily. Claire headed out of the kitchen, but stopped in the doorway, and looked back at her brother. “You’re just mad because Grandfather ignores you, and so does our parents.” she said, leaving the room. Alan looked down at his juice, “Bitch.” he said aloud.

Luis and Antonio stood outside Theresa’s front door. Luis pounded on it again, waiting impatiently for his sister to answer. Finally the door swung open. Theresa stood in the doorway with her jogging outfit on. She wasn’t at all shocked to see her older brothers standing there. ‘Thank God I sent Ethan home early this morning!’ she thought.

“What’s up?” Theresa asked. Luis and Antonio pushed past her, and walked into the apartment. Theresa closed the door, behind them. “Okay, come on in.” she said, sarcastically. Luis turned and glared at her, “Don’t give me that crap, after the stunt you pulled last night. I heard all about it! What the hell is wrong with you? Have you completely lost your damn mind!?” Luis screamed.

Theresa smiled at him, and put her hands on her hips. “I don’t think that my personal life is any of your concern. Especially since everyone in the family knows that your in love with Sheridan CRANE, and that your seeing her behind Beth’s back!” she yelled. Luis was shocked, his little sister never spoke to him like this. “That’s none of your damn business!” he yelled, back.

“Well my love life isn’t any of your business either! Your such a hypocrite! You’ve always lived by double standards! And before you even open your ignorant mouth, Tony, this is none of your concern either!” she yelled. Tony was angry, “Listen here Theresa, your not going to speak to me like that again. And if you do you’ll seriously regret it.” he said, menacingly.

“Oh and what are you going to do slap me? Well I hate to rain on your parade, but if you so much as lay a finger on me, I’ll send your conceited ass to jail!” Theresa screamed, in his face. Tony lifted his hand to smack her silly, but he knew that she would do it. Theresa turned her icy gaze Luis’s way, “And if you don’t drop this whole issue about me and Ethan, than I’ll tell Beth about your little sexual escapades with Sheridan Crane. And I’ll tell her soon-to-be husband, Jean-Luc too.” she said, satisfied with herself.

“You’d do that to your own family?” Luis asked, in despair. “You bet your ass I would. Look I don’t involve myself in your guys’ love lives. But your always trying to butt into mine. I love Ethan, with all my heart and soul, and I’ll do anything to be with him. If you two insist on making this hard on us, than I’m going to make this hard on everyone. Are we clear on this?” She asked, her brothers.

They both nodded, and walked out the door. After they left Theresa put on her Adidas and went for her morning jog. She was done with her jog an hour later, and decided to get some coffee at the Book Cafe’. She walked in to find Chad behind the counter. Even though he owned it now, he still pulled shifts, just to mingle with the townspeople.

“Hi Chad. How are you today?” Theresa asked, sitting at the counter. Chad smiled at her. “Hi Theresa, I’m fine and you?” he asked. He already knew what had happened at the Seascape, especially since he owned that too. But he also read it in the Harmony Herald. Theresa smiled at him. “ I’m sure you already know about what happened last night. But what happened this morning is what’s really irking me.” she said, sipping her latte’ that Chad had slid down the counter at her.

“Why? What happened this morning?” Chad asked, concerned. “Well, Luis and Tony came over this morning and we had a ugly fight. I said some things that I’m not proud of, and I feel terrible about it. But I love Ethan, and their trying to bring us down. It just made me so mad that they were trying to spoil our happiness, you know?” Theresa said, hoping that Chad would understand.

Chad nodded in agreement. “I know exactly how you feel. That almost happened to me and Whit. You know how her parents and sister acted after we told them that we were getting married. I thought that Coach Russell was going to kill me, but it all worked out in the end. And it will for you and Preppy too.” Chad said, using his nickname for Ethan.

“Thanks Chad you don’t even know how cheered up you just made me. Where’s the newspaper? I want to see what their saying now.” she asked. Chad handed her the newspaper that was sitting on the counter. Theresa didn’t have to flip threw it, her family and Ethan’s were on the front page.

CRANES VS LOPEZ-FITZGERALDS
Last night at the four star restaurant the Seascape, the Cranes and the Lopez-Fitzgeralds duke it out. It seems that Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald and heir Ethan Crane are engaged to be married this summer. The two families didn’t take this well, and ended up causing commotion at the Seascape. We have also found out from one of the servants that works for the Cranes that Sheridan Crane and Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald have been secretly seeing each other. Both Luis and Sheridan are engaged to different people. Another source from the restaurant says that Paloma West (Lopez-Fitzgerald) and Heather Crane came to blows last night. It’s unfortunate the these wealthy families can’t seem to get along with each other. It’s also unfortunate that these families have to start fights in public places. I guess that it goes to show you that money can’t buy class. By Noah Bennett, Editor and Chief Harmony Herald
Underneath the article was a picture of Theresa and Ethan holding each other, while their families screamed at each other. Another picture was of Paloma and Heather beating the crap out of each other. Theresa was mad. ‘Ooooh I’ve always hated that Noah Bennett! Where does he get off saying that we have no class? I’ve heard some juicy stories about his supposed picture perfect family, and they’re not the most flattering.” she said.

“Well you know how that goes. People in the press are always out for blood. I sure hope that Beth doesn’t see this.” Chad said, pointing at the paper. Theresa jumped off her stool. “I’m going down to that newspaper office right now. Their going to retract that damn article. I’ll strangle Noah with my bare hands if I have to!” she said. Theresa leaned over the counter and kissed Chad’s cheek.

“I was supposed to meet Ethan here in like a half hour. Tell him that I’ll be back as soon as possible.” she said, running out of the Book Cafe’. Chad smiled at her retreating figure. ‘She’s some fiery hellcat. Ethan’s going to have his hands full with her, if he makes her mad.” he thought chuckling to himself.
