"Songs to Love and Die By"
4.10: It's a Wonderful Life, One Tree Hill style.  The episode begins with a review of what happened the week before.  Haley gets hit, Nathan punches Daunte, Dan tells him he killed him, and Lucas collapses.  Dan surrenders to arriving cops.  On the ground, Lucas suddenly opens his eyes and gets up.  The street is empty, and no one is in sight.  Obviously, this is a dream or a near-death vision or something.  And then Keith is there!  Yay Keith!!  They're in the hospital, and Lucas watches himself and Haley being brought into the hospital, and he is really distressed.  In the real world, Brooke has just told Peyton about the accident, and Brooke offers to drive.  Keith says that Lucas isn't dead yet, and he's going to be his guide on this journey.  "What about Haley?" Lucas asks with urgency.  "Haley's not good," says a somber Keith.  The doctor comes out and tells Nathan everything that's wrong with Haley, and she's really messed up.  She also might lose the baby.  Nathan does not take it well.  Lucas gets sullen and despairing, and wonders what the point of being a good person is if all this bad stuff is gonna happen anyway.  Keith decides to show him how his being a good person has made a difference.  Keith shows Lucas a world in which Brooke is a serious, very angry Goth.  Lucas goes up to her and asks what's wrong, and she practically growls at him to go away.  I admit to feeling slightly satisfied at how the sight and sound of Goth!Brooke seemed to worry Lucas so.  Nathan blames himself and wishes he would have died in the water so none of this would have happened to Haley and the baby.  Brooke and Peyton listen to him and then cry and comfort each other after Nathan walks away to be alone.  I'm glad things are getting better between those two.  It's sad that it took this to get them there, but oh well.  Nathan goes to the bridge and talks to Keith, demanding answers about why he saved Nathan that day, but Vision!Keith and Lucas just watch.  Keith says that it really was Nathan that actually saved Cooper and Rachel that day.  In VisionWorld, Nathan goes into the music store, asks for the new Haley James album on vinyl, and then smashes the record to bits.  Keith says that Haley never came back to Tree Hill because Lucas never went to New York to tell her to come back.  "It all matters," Keith says.  Everything Lucas does as a good person matters.  In the real world, Peyton has a nice chat with the guy in the music store (exec. Mark Schwann making a brief cameo appearance), and she wants to believe everything will be okay, but can't quite get there.  Karen sits in the chapel at the hospital, and it's clear she's a wreck.  Keith and Lucas watch her, and Keith misses Karen.  Awwww.  We find out that Lucas didn't take his meds so he could play better in the state championships, and that's why the stress made his heart arrest.  Lucas tries to pry some answers out of Keith about what's going to happen, and Keith won't give anything away.  "You really suck at this, Keith," says Lucas.  Then they're in the high school, and Keith and Jimmy's dead bodies are there.  Keith subtly tries to encourage Lucas to realize that Jimmy didn't kill Keith without actually saying anything explicitly.  Brooke finds Peyton sitting outside (by an overpass?  Couldn't tell), and she sits with her.  She tells Peyton that she's not going to love Lucas and Haley like she lost her moms.  "Like I lost you?" Peyton says quietly. "I miss you, Brooke."  I think Brooke has missed Peyton too.  "Can we be friends again?" Peyton asks hopefully.  "Sure," says Brooke evenly.  "Like before?" Peyton presses, but with less hope this time. :(  Brooke looks pained.  "I'm sorry, Peyton.  I don't think so.  Like before is gone."  SAD.  In VisionWorld, Keith and Lucas watch Goth!Brooke cry over a headstone.  "She's so angry," observes Lucas.  "What happened to her?"  "You happened," replies Keith.  It's Peyton's headstone, and she died because Lucas never went back into the school for her.  Back in the real world, Nathan visits an incarcerated Dan and tells him he wants to tell the truth (even though nobody but Nathan really believes that Daunte wasn't already dead when Nathan started hitting him), but Dan says no.  Keith and Lucas visit the old mechanic garage and see Peyton's car there, and how Lucas showing her that her art mattered changed Peyton and affected her in a positive way.  In the real world, Peyton visits Lucas and Nathan cries over Haley, still unconscious and non-responsive.  Keith appears to Dan in jail.  "She's never gonna love you, Danny." Meaning Karen?  Dan raves for Keith to leave him alone, and Keith says, "I forgive you...but Hell won't." And then his face is scary, and Dan is frightened.  There is a very interesting scene where Peyton's visit to unconscious Haley is juxtaposed with Brooke's visit to unconscious Lucas.  Peyton tells Haley that Nathan is a mess, and Brooke tells Lucas that Karen is a mess.  "I need you to take care of Brooke," says Peyton.  "I need you to take care of Peyton," says Brooke.  "Because I can't do it anymore, and it's not like we can leave her with Rachel," says a teary Peyton.  (I have to say that I laughed out loud at this line; seriously the funniest thing the whole episode.)  Brooke says things to Lucas about being a good boyfriend to Peyton, and she wants him to wake up so he can take care of Peyton.  And then both Peyton and Brooke ask Haley and Lucas not to tell Brooke and Peyton that they had this conversation.  HEE!  Nathan begs for Haley's life in the chapel, and she wakes up!  Nathan is beside himself with relief.  Vision!Keith wants Lucas to believe in himself, but he still won't give any answers about the afterlife or anything.  Lucas can decide what to do (live or die), and he sees an older woman at a headstone in VisionWorld--it's Peyton in the future at Lucas' headstone, who never could move past him.  "I have to go back.  I never told Peyton I love her." *eyeroll*  It's a really sad goodbye for Keith and Lucas.  Really sad. :( Keith then shocks Lucas, and he's gonna be okay.  The doctor finds a heartbeat for Haley's baby, so the baby is fine (miraculously...after a hit like that, kind of unlikely, but whatev, it's TV).  Brooke sees Peyton sleeping in a chair by Lucas' bed.  Lucas is still sort of in his dream world, and he's back in the high school when Keith was shot.  Keith's voice echoes around him: Look into your heart, what did you see that day?  Open your eyes!  Lucas thinks really hard, and suddenly Lucas wakes up in his hospital bed, and we are left wondering if he knows the truth about Keith's death or not, because that's where the episode ends.  Whoa.  I'm not a fan of It's a Wonderful Life, so the VisionWorld kind of annoyed me, but other than that it was a good episode.  It was nice to see Keith again, and I'm glad that Brooke and Peyton are back on the right track.  I think I'm just going to have to slowly get over the fact that Brooke and Lucas are over and I'm stuck with Peyton and Lucas for a while.  Ugh.  I'm working on it.  Still no further explanation of Rachel's behavior, but that line of Peyton's was priceless. :D

    "Some You Give Away"
4.09: Oh my.  So much going on.  And I thought my heart was broken over last week's!  Little did I know.  The beginning of the episode makes it look and sound like the Ravens lost the state championship because of something Nathan did.  Whitey looks unhappy, Nathan is crying (more like weeping, actually), and Peyton looks to be on the verge of tears.  Then we rewind to right after Peyton told Lucas she was in love with him.  He stands there looking at her and says, "Oh."  That's all we see of that.  Lucas tells Skills later that he said "oh," mumbled something about being friends, and left.  That gave me just the tiniest bit of hope, but then Skills had to go and dash it by telling Lucas he should really think about Peyton and if he really only wants to be friends with her.  Helpful, Skills, thanks. *eyeroll*  Nathan tells Lucas that they have to lose the championship, and Lucas is PISSED.  All Nathan can say is "I'm sorry."  Lucas isn't satisfied with that, and I don't blame him.  Rachel doesn't tutor well, it seems.  She learns that Haley has keys to the cabinet all the tests are kept in, past and future.  Haley is annoyed with her, and she makes some joke about how Haley could make a lot of money selling tests.  Sigh.  Rachel.  I don't understand you.  Okay, so Lucas tries once again to convince Nathan not to throw the game by pointing out that if they lose, Skills pretty much won't go to college, but to no avail.  All the girls are driving to the game in Rachel's car, and it gets pretty ugly.  Lots of snapping at each other leads to some "role playing" in which Haley does a hilariously spot-on impression of Rachel, and everyone else starts pretending to be everyone else and saying mean things.  Things deteriorate into Brooke saying Peyton will die soon if her two moms are any indication.  Whoa.  It was an incredibly low, cruel thing to say, and everyone in the car knew it.  I think even Brooke knew it.  Even so, Peyton and Brooke get into a mini slap fight right there in the car.  Yikes.  Before the game starts, the cheerleaders all stand around and wait.  Haley isn't feeling well at all.  Brooke and Peyton are still at each other's throats, and Brooke makes a crack about how Peyton isn't even brave enought to tell Lucas the truth.  Peyton responds by telling Brooke that she told Lucas, "and he doesn't want me.  You can smile now." And she leaves.  And Brooke doesn't smile.  She looks just the tiniest bit unhappy for Peyton.  Lucas tells Skills about Nathan's intentions, and they both vow to "play the game of our lives" and win it despite Nathan.  Something seems to be seriously wrong with Haley, and the girls take her to the hospital.  A mean orderly woman makes them wait to see a doctor, and for once, Rachel and Brooke and Peyton all unite to get Haley some help.  All three of them were practically breathing fire.  The doctor will see Haley, and there was this hysterical moment where all three of them call the stupid woman a mean name at once ("bitch/slut/etc"), and all Bevin says is "thank you."  HA!  The doctor says that Haley and the baby are fine, so they go back to the game.  Nathan is stinking up the place, and Lucas and Skills are doing everything they can to work around him, even though Lucas can only play fifteen minutes in the game.  Brooke and Peyton talk about Lucas' reaction to Peyton.  Yes, talk.  I think that Brooke realizes that she doesn't know why she's mad at Peyton anymore.  "Boys can be so dumb," says Brooke.  Peyton talks about the time Lucas said the one he wanted next to him when his dreams came true was Brooke.  "I would have given anything for him to say me," sighs Peyton, and Brooke actually looks like she cares.  YAY!  I think their relationship is on the road to recovery. :D  At half time, Whitey gives the team a talking to because they are losing.  Haley tells Nathan that they are having a boy, and she would be okay if Nathan never played college basketball.  Nathan, wanting his son to be proud of him, decides to win.  Yay, Nathan!  I still don't like you, but you've managed to avoid completely disappointing me.  So, Karen told Deb she was driving her to the game, but she actually took her to rehab, and that's where Deb wakes up.  Good for Karen.  Someone had to do something.  Haley tells the other girls she's having a boy, and they're all happy for her.  Nathan and the team fight really hard to make up all those points, and Lucas makes a last second three-pointer for the win!  Everyone goes crazy celebrating, and Brooke and Lucas hug.  *sob*  My poor crushed 'shipper heart.  Brooke then proves that she still cares about Peyton by telling Lucas to go to her.  Lucas has this lame epiphany, complete with flashback to an earlier S1 Lucas/Peyton moment, and he goes over to Peyton and says, "It's you."  (The one he wants to be next to when his dreams come true.)  And they kiss.  And Ellen dies, her heart obliterated.  I knew this was coming, but that doesn't mean I dislike it even less.  And I want to point out that it wasn't necessary for the OTH writers to cancel out or invalidate Brooke and Lucas' relationship for Lucas/Peyton to happen.  Ugh.  Anyway, Daunte is predictably enraged at all the money he's lost because the Ravens won.  Rachel reveals to Brooke that she could pass calculus with her eyes closed; Brooke is actually the one flunking calc.  Rachel pretended to need tutoring so she could steal the keys to the tests.  She offers them to Brooke so she can steal the test she needs, pass, and graduate.  Wow.  I will officially no longer try to figure out what the hell Rachel is doing with Brooke.  I'm at a total loss.  Lucas tells Haley that Peyton is his girlfriend, and (thank God someone is rational), she is surprised.  Like many of us, I imagine.  Lucas and Peyton kiss some more, and there is gagworthy "us" talk.  Dan continues to try to insinuate himself into Lucas and Karen's lives, and he spends some time with Lucas.  I loved when Lucas told Dan he wishes Keith were here too.  Take that, Dan!  Nathan and Haley are leaving Karen's Cafe where they were all celebrating, and Daunte tries to run Nathan down with his car.  Haley pushes him out of the way and takes the hit instead.  And it was a bad, bad hit.  Really horrible.  I fear for Haley's life here.  Daunte's car goes careening off the road and crashes pretty badly.  Nathan is beside himself with fear for Haley and rage at Daunte.  He pulls Daunte out of his car (and Daunte is already at the very least unconscious) and starts hitting him in the face over and over.  Dan stops him and tells Nathan that he killed him.  He makes Nathan go to Haley and punches the asphalt until his hand bleeds so it looks like he hit Daunte.  Personally, I think Daunte died on impact in the crash, and Nathan was just hitting the already-dead Daunte.  But you know Dan.  Anything to manipulate a situation.  Lucas, meanwhile, has come out and seen what's happened, and he really loses it.  (As gut-wrenching as it was, I couldn't help but have my little Lucas/Haley squee over how much he was freaking out.)  Lucas is so distraught over Haley that he goes into cardiac arrest!  The paramedics now have to fight to save him, too.  They are both rushed to the hospital, and that's why Nathan was weeping.  That's why Whitey was upset.  Brooke comes into Peyton's room and tells her that Lucas and Haley are in the hospital.  "It's bad, Peyton.  It's really bad."  And Peyton looks like she might fall apart.  Brooke looked like she was barely holding it together too.  And that's where it ends.  AAAAAAHHHHHH!  Don't kill anybody, Mark Schwann!  Don't!

"Nothing Left to Say But Goodbye"
4.08: I will say first of all that I am kinda heartbroken.  You'll know why by the end of this recap.  As I suspected, Daunte (Rick Fox) isn't letting Nathan off the hook.  Like we all didn't see that coming a mile away.  Daunte says that Nathan has to make the Ravens lose the state championship, or he will expose Nathan's point-shaving in the last game and Nathan will lose his Duke scholarship.  Plus, Daunte and his meathead buddy will beat Nathan up so he can't play basketball again anyway.  Hmm, a dilemma.  Rachel is failing Calculus and if she doesn't pull her grade up, she won't graduate.  Brooke appears on Lucas' doorstep and tells him she misses him.  He's really confused and not sure what to do with that.  She thinks he's hesitating because of Peyton, and he insists that they are just friends.  Peyton chooses that moment to come into the room with a toothbrush in her mouth.  Brooke scoffs and walks out.  At school, Peyton tells Lucas that they finally caught Psycho! Not!Derek.  Hooray!  Maybe now you two can stop sleeping in the same bed.  Lucas tells Peyton about Brooke, and she asks him if he wants Brooke to miss him.  "I don't know," he says.  Brooke and Rachel talk, and Brooke worries that she made a mistake breaking up with Lucas, that maybe she was just mad at Peyton when she did it and shouldn't have broken up with him.  Rachel emphatically insists that Brooke didn't make a mistake; maybe she broke up with Lucas because she realized she didn't love him anymore.  I will break in at this point to say that I have no idea what Rachel is trying to do here.  If she were a guy and acting like this, trying to sabotage all of Brooke's relationships, I would say that the guy liked Brooke and wanted her for himself.  But Rachel being a girl and all, it's way more puzzling.  I wonder if it's part of an elaborate plan to destroy Brooke.  Or it could be something else entirely that I can't figure out.  Or, and I could sort of see them going this direction with Rachel, she might actually want Brooke.  I feel like that's unlikely, but not necessarily out of the question.  Regardless, I'm unclear on Rachel's goals, and it unnerves me not to be able to read a character.  Anyway.  Nathan turns Daunte down, and they drag him into an alley and nearly break his leg in half.  "Lose that game!"  Derek helps Peyton paint her bedroom a deep red.  Good color, I think.  He tells her to take a risk and go for it with Lucas.  Lucas is going to be presenting Nathan with the MVP award at a banquet, and he is still not cool with what happened at the game.  He just wants to know that Nathan will really act like the MVP in the future.  Brooke and Peyton have a small confrontation in the hall at school, in which Brooke tells Peyton that she's "screwing [her] leftovers."  Peyton laughs it off, and Brooke asserts that she can take Lucas back anytime she wants.  Peyton is annoyed with Brooke because she's not sleeping with Lucas (well, not like that), and Brooke is being a bitch, as usual.  Leaving Peyton, Brooke finds Lucas and gets flirty with him.  He explains about Peyton being in his room in the morning, and Brooke asks him to come to the MVP banquet with her.  He accepts.  And I'm depressed.  Normally, this would make me really happy, and upon first watching, I definitely had a little squee over it.  But it's not to last...  Rachel asks Haley to tutor her, and Haley basically tells her to screw off.  Dan asks Karen to go to the banquet with him (GAG) and she turns him down.  Peyton decides to take that risk and asks Lucas to the banquet.  He says he would love to go, but he's already going with Brooke.  Rachel is annoyed with Brooke for going with Lucas: "What you're feeling isn't real."  Again, Ellen is confused.  Rachel, not wanting to be left without a date, assumes Mouth doesn't have one and tells him he's going with her.  Oops.  Mouth's date with Gigi went well, and he's already going with her.  Nice, Rachel.  Nice.  Peyton, having struck out with Lucas, asks Derek to go with her.  He says yes.  Aww, nice brother.  In Karen's diner, Lucas, Haley, and Karen discuss Rachel's request for tutoring and second chances.  Okay, since when do Lucas and Haley kiss on the cheek when greeting each other?  Because there was cheek kissage, and it's mean to do that to poor Ellen when she knows it doesn't mean what she wants it to mean.  Tease!  Anyway, Lucas tells Haley she should tutor Rachel, and Haley is annoyed.  All that talk of second chances makes Karen lose her mind and accept Dan's invitation to the banquet, but she stipulates that it is NOT a date.  Doesn't make any difference, Karen!  You're still insane for having anything to do with that man!  At the banquet, Rachel tries to hijack Mouth from Gigi by changing the seating arrangements, but Gigi cleverly thwarts her.  I don't like Gigi all that much, but I will give her points for not letting Rachel intimidate her.  And if I thought that Rachel wanted to hijack Mouth because she actually wanted to be with him and not because she didn't want to be the only one without a date, then I would be more excited about it.  Rachel, being the inscrutable person that she is, messes with the seating so that she, Mouth, Gigi, Brooke, Lucas, Peyton, Derek, Nathan, and Haley are all at the same table.  Yikes.  Peyton introduces Derek as her brother, and the reception is slightly awkward.  Brooke is really coming on strong with Lucas, and he says that Derek is a good guy and she should get to know him.  She doesn't care to, and besides, "tonight is about us, right?"  Lucas presents Nathan with his MVP award, and there is still a small amount of tension there.  Brooke tells Haley she should tutor Rachel.  She thinks Rachel has changed.  "She's been really good to me lately."  Immediately a red flag went up for me.  I think that could mean that Rachel really is planning some massive, terrible destruction for Brooke.  It frightens me.  Derek tells Peyton that he got orders to ship out with his unit.  Sad.  Peyton will miss him.  Whitey accepts a lifetime achievement award, and tearfully talks about what the game means to him, and then he talks about how he wishes his wife, his other great love, could have been there with him for this.  He talks about looking at her and knowing immediately that he was seeing his future.  He loved her very much.  Hearing this speech, everyone looks thoughtful, Lucas and Brooke included.  In a moment of desperation, Nathan asks Dan for help with the Daunte situation.  Dan says he will take care of it.  Dan apologizes for leaving Karen, and she says whatever, it's not a date, and he's all, if you say so.  OH GROSS.  Honestly.  Karen, don't do this.  It will only make it worse when you find out that he murdered Keith.  Brooke and Peyton talk at the banquet (talk, not fight).  Brooke calmly wants to know why Peyton hasn't told Lucas how she felt before now.  She had her chance after Brooke and Lucas broke up, and Brooke is somewhat puzzled as to why Peyton didn't do anything about it.  Peyton didn't want make things any worse.  Brooke says she was mad at Peyton when she asked Lucas to the banquet, but now she doesn't know...  It was a very different conversation from the ones they've had lately.  Brooke was not angry, just confused.  I almost think that she wants Peyton to tell Lucas how she feels.  Whatever Whitey said must have affected her.  This is encouraging to me for only one reason: this might mean that they can be friends again someday.  *hopes*  Dan tries to threaten and intimidate Daunte, but Daunte threatens back.  Dan leaves with his tail between his legs.  HA!  I mean, sad for Nathan, but HA for Dan.  Haley is really proud of Nathan, and he's obviously trying to stay positive.  Haley mentions the Rachel thing, and Nathan tells her she should tutor her.  Haley is so annoyed because she's gonna hafta tutor Rachel.  Funny.  Derek says goodbye, and it's sad.  Lucas takes Brooke home, and she tells him she thinks asking him to the banquet was a mistake, and he agrees.  *cries*  He says he used to miss her, and they both agree that listening to Whitey, they knew he wasn't describing them.  They talk about waiting to see if they find that kind of love for themselves (but separately).  And then they decide to be friends, and they hug.  As friends.  AND I AM SAD.  I think this is really, really the end for Brooke/Lucas.  It feels very final.  And I'm really sad.  Haley tells Rachel she will tutor her, but Rachel has to remember that Haley can't stand her.  Dan informs Nathan that he's going to have to lose the state championship.  Lucas goes to see Peyton and tells her that it's over for him and Brooke.  She steels herself and says, "I love you, Lucas."  He totally misunderstands and says he loves her too.  No, no.  "I'm in love with you."  And he just stands there, staring at her.  And it ends.  And Ellen is annoyed and sad and annoyed.  NEXT WEEK: Haley and Lucas get in an accident.  The preview showed a very upset Brooke in Peyton's room saying, "Lucas and Haley are in the hospital.  It's bad, Peyton.  Really bad."  NOOOOOOO!  They wouldn't kill anyone!  They can't kill Lucas because it's pretty much his show, but Haley is more expendable.  THEY CANNOT KILL HALEY.  I forbid it.  I'm worried. :(

"All These Things That I've Done"
4.07: Brooke shows her fashion line at a show, and Mouth helps her.  Teach shows up and he and Brooke make goo-goo eyes at each other.  A skanky model ho hits on Mouth because he's an adorable virgin or something.  Haley breaks it to Nathan that she got accepted to Duke and (magically) realized that what she wants is to go there with him.  *major eyeroll*  Whatever, Haley.  Even though Derek says that he doesn't want to be part of Peyton's life, he breaks into her house anyway to prove to her that she needs better door and window locks.  He also kind of goads her into going to school again.  The Rick Fox guy (who isn't from Duke, but is some kind of shady gangster or something?  I have no idea who he is except that he's trouble) tells Nathan that he either has to pay him back $15,000 or fix his basketball game so that the Ravens win by nine points or less...or Nathan gets his ass beaten.  Rachel appears at Brooke's fashion show to tell her (and show her) that she made the cover of Maxim.  They get all giggly and squealing about it, and then Rachel tells Brooke that she knows about her and Teach.  He has a name, but I like calling him Teach a lot better. :)  Peyton arrives at school, but she is immediately bombarded with overwhelming memories of the shooting, being shot, Derek, and other painful things.  Lucas of course comes to her rescue before she loses it completely and takes her home.  The skanky model kisses Mouth and invites him to party with her and her skanky model ho friends.  Gigi (who is unaware of the skanky model) reminds Mouth of their date.  Mouth is conflicted for some reason, who can say what. *snerk* Back at school, Rachel shows off her Maxim cover, and when Teach tells her to put it away, she makes a thinly veiled remark about Teach and Brooke ("What? I thought you liked high school girls.").  After class, Teach and Rachel have a tense discussion, and then Rachel shuts the door, and that's all we see.  Huh?  Rachel then goes to Brooke and says that Teach hit on her and that he's a bad guy.  I'm confused.  Looked to me like Rachel was doing all the hitting, but Teach wasn't exactly not putting out the "vibes" either.  We never see exactly what transpired in the empty classroom, but I'm confused anyway.  Brooke doesn't believe Rachel and ("I know you don't have a boyfriend right now, but...") accuses her of being jealous.  Jealous of what, you ask?  Of Brooke having a hot secret affair with the hot teacher?  Of Brooke having anyone at all?  Of Teach spending so much time with Brooke, her new (and apparently only) friend?  I don't know.  Haley decides to babysit to make some extra cash.  It doesn't go well.  Kids are brats.  Nathan is desperate for money, but Dan won't help him and Deb doesn't have any money.  Deb steals a prescription pad and tries to get more pills, but she gets arrested instead.  Karen is concerned.  Brooke gets called into an administrator's office, and they tell her that they've heard that Teach is sleeping with Brooke, and if it's true, he might be fired.  Brooke wants to know who would say something like that (she's denying it up and down), and Rachel steps into the room and says she would.  Brooke talks to Teach back at her fashion show, and he says that Rachel came onto him, not the other way around.  Brooke seems to believe him, but I can see the little cracks of doubt starting to form.  Dan says he can help Deb get out of her legal mess, but only if she signs Tric back over to Karen.  Hmm.  Looks like Dan is trying to ooze his way back into Karen's good graces any despicable way he can.  At the basketball game, Rachel is mad at Brooke for accusing her of being jealous.  Peyton tries to go the game, but freaks out, and Derek is there.  He apologizes for pushing her, and he promises to be there for her as long as she keeps trying.  Lucas confronts Nathan on why he's giving up so many points (even though they're still winning).  Nathan tells Lucas the truth, and Lucas is disgusted that Nathan would agree to it.  Brooke finally has enough of Rachel and rants off a list of all the bad things she's done since she arrived (and it's a pretty impressive list, lemme tell ya), and she says, "I thought you were a real person," but Brooke thinks she was wrong.  Derek gets Peyton a boxing dummy torso thing, and he really starts teaching her how to box.  Peyton beats the shit out of that dummy.  Awesome.  Lucas, though conflicted, misses a couple free throws on purpose in the last seconds of the game so that they win by nine points and Nathan isn't screwed, but Lucas isn't happy about it and tells Nathan "never again."  Mouth makes the right choice and goes out with Gigi, and Nathan proves himself to be good with the brats that Haley was trying to babysit.  Brooke goes to Teach's apartment to stay with him because she doesn't want to be with Rachel right now, and he's acting kinda odd, and suddenly skanky model ho walks out!  GASP!  Brooke slaps Teach good and storms off.  She comes back to Rachel in tears and says that she's sorry; Rachel was right.  She apologizes, and Rachel says she wishes she weren't right.  Then they sit together while Brooke is upset, and Rachel hugs her.  Okay, I am officially confused about what the heck Rachel's doing.  Teach is still a bad guy regardless, but was Rachel lying about what happened in the classroom?  And if so, why?  Honestly, she baffles me.  Sometimes I think she really does care about Brooke and wants to be her friend, and sometimes I think she's still up to her old ways of trying to destroy her.  Sigh.  Next Week: Just as Peyton tries to make a move on Lucas, Brooke suddenly decides that she misses him and tries to get with him!  HOLY CRAP.  I'm conflicted.  And sort of happy at the prospect of Brooke not necessarily being over Lucas.  Hee!

"Where Did You Sleep Last Night?"
4.06: Peyton spends the majority of the episode not doing well, and Lucas tries to help her.  She can't sleep in her house, and she spends a lot of time sleeping in Lucas' room.  In his bed.  With him.  Nothing happens, but it still looks like a glaring billboard on the road to the Inevitable Peyton/Lucas Hookup.  Ugh.  Lucas does his best, but it becomes clear to him that Peyton needs someone else's help.  He fervently asks Peyton's newly discovered brother Derek to help her, and he reluctantly agrees.  He's a Marine, and she spends a little time with him on his base.  It's a little awkward, but he teaches Peyton a little boxing so she can defend herself.  She won't hit him, so he gets her angry, and we see all the painful things Peyton has experienced over the course of the show: Ellie dying, Jake, her mother's grave, the drugs, Brooke's rejection, and of course, Fake!Psycho!Derek attacking her.  Wow, Peyton is really messed up.  After all that, she gets mad and finally succumbs to the pain and emotional collapse.  It was very moving.  At least, I felt moved.  Derek helps her not feel so much like a victim anymore.  In the end, Derek says he can't have a relationship with Peyton, but he's glad to have helped her.  Peyton is able to sleep in her own room with the light out, even if she does have six locks on her bedroom door now.  Derek says that he can't be "that guy" for her, but he tells Lucas that she already has "someone special" in her life, meaning Lucas.  Yet another billboard.  Brooke, meanwhile, is shocked to discover that the guy she fell head-over-heels for is actually the new English teacher.  Rachel mentions something about how she seems to be over Lucas, and Ellen is sad.  Brooke is totally freaking out about him being her teacher, but he doesn't seem to have a problem with any of it as long as they keep it a secret.  She's 18, so they make out in the classroom, have secret trysts at night, etc.  Except in class, Teach leans awfully close to Brooke while "inspecting" her work, and Rachel notices.  Yeah, obvious.  So Rachel totally knows.  Gigi, Mouth's announcing partner, declares that she's going to ask him out, and Mouth asks Brooke for advice about how to let her down easy.  However, Mouth sees Rachel right before he's about to turn Gigi down, and he gets sad.  He turns around and asks Gigi out first, and she accepts.  Poor Mouth.  Obviously not over Rachel, but she's still not interested, so he's going out with a girl he's not all that interested in to get over her.  :(  Nathan and Haley are having serious money problems, and Haley freaks out.  Karen encourages her though, and Nathan stupidly takes money from the Duke recruiter (NBA guest star Rick Fox) to try and solve things (he says he'll pay the guy back, but it's still a stupid move).  When this comes out, Nathan won't be able to play for Duke, I guarantee it.  The other interesting thing that happened in this episode is a conversation between Haley and Brooke in which Brooke complains about Peyton not showing up for cheerleading, and Haley talks about how not at all well Peyton has been doing, and Brooke is a bitch about it at first.  Then she softens and asks (with some actual concern) how Peyton is doing.  But then she's back to being a jerk, and orders Haley not to tell Peyton that she asked about her.  I am still so sad about the rift between Brooke and Peyton.  But at least Brooke still cares somewhere deep down, right?  :(

"I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness"
4.05: Lucas is at the hospital with Karen for one of her regular checkups.  As he's leaving, he sees "Derek's" hooker woman with the blonde wig and Ellie's jacket on.  She's all beat up and cut.  She gives Lucas the jacket, and he gives it back to Peyton, along with his serious suspicions about her supposed brother.  She still refuses to believe him.  Lucas won't let it go, though.  He brings his fears to the police, and they promise to pick Derek up.  Peyton does her own investigating and finally realizes that Lucas was right.  There are a couple of close calls with Derek, but Peyton BS-es her way out.  Derek isn't buying it, though, and he's starting to get homicidal.  Meanwhile, Nathan gets accepted to Duke with a full basketball scholarship, and just as he breaks the news to Haley, she tells him she's pregnant.  He doesn't take it very well and leaves, and Haley is pretty upset.  She even goes to Dan (!!) for help with Nathan.  What the hell is up with everyone suddenly trusting Dan, as though he were a human being?  I don't get it.  First Karen, now Haley.  Ugh.  Anyway, Dan (true to form) turns around and tries to convince Nathan to choose Duke over Haley and the baby.  Nathan is conflicted.  Also, Rachel makes one last play for him, but when he blurts out that Haley is pregnant and not Brooke, she apologizes and backs off.  She also admits that she didn't really see Keith; she was just trying to get close to him.  I thought so.  So, I think Rachel's weird obsession with Nathan is coming to an end.  Oh, so funny!  Haley tells Brooke about Nathan's reaction to her pregnancy, and Brooke is all supportive and everything, but then she asks Haley if it would be so bad for other people to know since Nathan knows.  Haley says no, so Brooke actually stands up on a table in the middle of the school courtyard and shouts to everybody that she is not pregnant, Haley is.  HA, very amusing.  Rachel sets Brooke up with a hot, slightly older guy through an online personals thing.  She puts Brooke's age down as 23.  Brooke and this dude hit it off and hook up.  Gag.  Nathan announces he's planning to go to Duke, but that he and Haley are in this together, he loves her, he's so happy, blah blah blah.  So all is right once more in Nathan/Haley world.  Whatev.  Meanwhile, Lucas hears from the police that they've picked up Derek, so he tells Peyton it's safe to go home.  When he gets to the police station, though, it's not the right guy.  It's some black guy that had the phone number that Peyton used to call Derek, and his name is actually Derek Summers.  AHA!  So "Derek" is not even Derek!  Lucas tries to warn Peyton, but it's too late, and he goes running to her rescue.  Psycho guy is there and serious about hurting her.  She tries to barricade herself in her room, but he gets in, and he's totally going to kill her.  Lucas gets there and tries to subdue the guy, but he gets shocked with a stun gun, and Psycho guy grabs Peyton and is just about to, um, rape her (I've watched enough SVU to know a sexual assault when I see one), and the real Derek Summers comes barreling in and gets Psycho guy off her!  Psycho is all, "Who are you?" "I'm her brother, bitch!  Who are you?"  Then a conscious Lucas and Derek rush at Psycho guy and knock him clean through the second story window.  He's lying there on the ground, but when the cops arrive, he's nowhere to be seen.  And Real!Derek says to Peyton, "I guess I'm your brother."  Yay!  One final note.  So, much as it annoys me, it looks like Lucas/Peyton: Part Deux is only a matter of time.  Ick.  And I was highly disappointed that we got no reaction from Brooke on Peyton's life-and-death ordeal.  I don't think she even knew.  Honestly, the rift between Brooke and Peyton makes me more sad than most of the crap that's happening on this show right now. :( Next Week: Brooke's older hookup guys is the new English teacher!  Great...

"Can't Stop This Thing We've Started"
4.04: Okay, so I know I said last week that Brooke was the pregnant one, but I jumped the gun, and so did everyone in Tree Hill, it seems.  Haley is the pregnant one, and Brooke was just taking the heat for her by letting everyone think she was pregnant.  Aww, nice. :)  A very cute scene about this takes place when Haley tells Lucas, who is confused and upset that Brooke wouldn't tell him about being pregnant, that she is pregnant.  Lucas is happy, and promises to be a great uncle.  Haley says she's scared about how Nathan will react, and Lucas comforts her.  SO CUTE.  I admit to having a little fantasy about Nathan rejecting Haley for getting pregnant and Lucas pulling a Keith and helping Haley raise the baby.  Not likely, but I can dream, right?  Anyway, people have been on Brooke's case all episode about being pregnant.  Rachel says she'll be a terrible mother, and Brooke is all upset about it.  Mouth tells Brooke that he overheard her and Rachel arguing about Brooke's supposed pregnancy, and he tells Brooke that he thinks she'll be a great mother.  Brooke hugs him and says she has to tell him something (and this happens right before Haley tells Lucas the truth, so I assume Brooke was going to tell him the truth too).  Brooke/Mouth squee!  Hey, if I can't have Mouth/Rachel, I will certainly take Brooke/Mouth.  Rachel tells Nathan that she lied; she did see something in the water.  What? Nathan wants to know.  Keith, says Rachel.  I don't know if she really saw Keith or is just saying that to get closer to Nathan, but regardless, it's an interesting development.  Lucas thinks things with Brooke are really over this time, and sadly, I have to agree.  Peyton is all geared up to make her move on Lucas, but her "brother" screwed it up by lying about something Lucas said.  Lucas cleared up the lie, but I'm not sure Peyton will go for Lucas just yet because he suggested to her that Derek isn't really who he says he is.  So, we are safe from Lucas/Peyton for one more week.  And Derek is SO not her brother!  He's a psycho stalker freak!  Seriously.  He got some woman to put on a blonde wig before having sex with her.  Gross.  And one more thing: Deb has become a crazy pill-popping junkie bitch.  She fires Karen from Tric.  Yikes.  And Karen has also apparently lost her mind.  Dan talked to Lucas about not giving up basketball entirely, so Karen invites him to have coffee in her house!  NUTS.  Wait until she finds out that Dan murdered Keith.  Just wait.

"Good News For People Who Love Bad News"
4.03: I'm going to make this simple this week.  Rachel has an obsessive thing for Nathan because she thinks he saved her life.  Nathan doesn't have a thing for Rachel, but he wants to know if she saw anyone else in the water that day.  She didn't (or at least she says she didn't).  Lucas tries one more time with Brooke, but she shoots him down, and he seems to have given up for good.  Haley was briefly mad at Lucas for kissing Peyton and ruining things with Brooke, but as soon as Lucas fills her in on the whole 'Peyton was bleeding to death, she kissed me' thing, Haley relents.  They vow to be best friends forever (and ever), and Ellen squees like a little girl.  Peyton's brother spends a day with her, and they seem to be off to a good start.  However, the end reveals that he has been photographically stalking her for what seems like a long time, and he may not be who he says he is (although Peyton knows nothing of this).  Brooke is, in fact, the pregnant one, and Rachel has guessed it.  Brooke and Rachel fight over Rachel going after Nathan, and about Brooke being pregnant, and Mouth overhears.  So now Mouth, Rachel, and Haley know.  And poor Mouth!  He makes it obvious that he wants to go out with Rachel and that he likes her, but she tells him what a good friend he is, and he is very depressed for the rest of the night.  Sad!  And eww, Karen seems to be warming up to Dan again.  Gross.

    "Things I Forgot at Birth"
4.02: Oy.  Brooke apparently (?) doesn't have feelings for Lucas anymore, even though last week she just said that she still loves him.  Rachel said it, and Brooke didn't deny it.  O-kay.  Lucas is getting chummier and chummier with Peyton while she helps him try to get Brooke back.  Yeah, like that's a good plan.  And why is it not a good plan?  Because when Brooke sees you and Peyton looking very comfortable together, it does not bode well for her relationship with either of you.  Peyton allowed Lucas in on a tradition for Brooke's birthday, but Brooke showed up too late to see that Lucas was waiting for her to get there and just early enough to see Lucas and Peyton hanging out together.  Nice.  Not really.  Nathan now claims that he saw Keith in the water, and it was Keith that saved them, even though Keith is dead.  Haley is still pissed at Rachel for causing the accident, Cooper woke up and took the blame for the accident before leaving Tree Hill, and Brooke is now fully living with Rachel.  Weird.  I do love Rachel's honesty, though.  She deftly pointed out that Peyton isn't as big of a back-stabber as Brooke likes to think (this was before Brooke saw Peyton and Lucas together, of course).  The problem with Rachel is that she is developing an unfortunate thing for Nathan, and while Nathan having an affair and ruining his "marriage" to Haley would make my year, I'd rather it be with Taylor (Haley's sister, who I miss) than Rachel.  Especially since poor Mouth is alone and available.  The biggest "ick" in this ep: Dan demonstrates yet again how much he wants to "be there" for Karen and her baby.  He fixes up Lucas' old crib and gives it to Karen.  NOOOOOOOO!  I really must put my foot down here.  Dan/Karen canNOT happen.  No.

One Tree Hill Season 4 Premiere: "The Same Deep Water As You"
4.01: Well.  Holy crap.  Many, many things took place in this premiere.  I know I will probably forget something, so I'm sorry in advance about that.  First of all, Nathan and Rachel are okay, but Cooper is still unconscious.  Hmm.  Sadly, though I can't say that I wasn't prepared for it, Brooke broke up with Lucas.  She says that she loves him and probably always will, but she basically doesn't think that Lucas loves her as much as she loves him.  And I guess I think that's fair.  I'm still bummed about it, though.  Peyton and Lucas are getting chummy again, and while I like Peyton a lot, I don't want it to turn (once again) into Peyton/Lucas.  Nathan and Haley are still going strong despite the accident and everything.  Bleh.  I think Mouth is leaning toward forgiving Rachel at this point if she will just face her mistakes and change her ways.  I think she can.  Hell, she invited Brooke to move in with her, so that's something right there.  I like Rachel, and I don't care what anyone says.  She's an interesting character.  Karen is pregnant with Keith's child (cute!  and SAD!), and Dan, for some horrifying reason, kind of asked her out.  EWW.  Someone besides Dan knows that he killed Keith, and I have no idea who it is.  Dan is threatening to kill Deb because she tried to kill him first, and Deb is pretty much going off the deep end.  Crazy.  Peyton apparently has a brother through the biological father she's never met.  AHHHH!  Too much going on.  OH.  And I think (I THINK) the end of the episode was supposed to imply that Brooke is in fact pregnant with Lucas' kid even though she told him she wasn't.  However, Haley was sitting right there with her when the doctor said "you are pregnant," so I still think it could be Haley that's pregnant.  This show has too much going on.  It's exhausting trying to keep it all straight.  But I must do my best. :)

One Tree Hill: "Lonesome Road"
Well, no Nathan/Taylor kiss.  But I think my 'shipper reflexes may be kicking in for N/T.  I was most definitely rooting for them to kiss.  Honestly, I started to actually like Nathan while he was hanging out with Taylor, and I never like Nathan.  It seems to me that she understand him a heck of a lot better than anyone thought.  She's also a heck of a lot more awesome than we all thought.  I think Nathan noticed.  They may not have kissed, but I think she made a real impression this time.  Hee!  The future of the Naley marriage is still up in the air.  Good.  Felix is gone to military school, Anna comes out to her parents, and Anna decides to go back to boarding school.  Brooke gets herself grounded for the first time in her life by Karen, Lucas and Andy try to get some damning evidence on Dan, Dan is too fast for them, Dan and Lucas still maintain a friendly facade even though they both know that the other is hiding things, and Lucas casually tells Brooke that he would do "anything for you," a sentiment that Brooke definitely doesn't miss.  Don't know how she interpreted it, but she certainly noticed.  Nikki puts the pressure on Jake, and she even tells him that he's not the father of Jenny, but he doesn't care.  Jake secretly sends Jenny away with Whitey, and he turns himself in to the police and goes to jail.  Peyton was heartbreaking when she thought that Jake was going to leave Tree Hill again; she offered to go with him, and he tells her she can't go with him.  So sad.  When it turns out that he willingly went to jail, she comes to visit him.  She tearfully tells him that she loves him, and he says he loves her too.  They've never said that before!  Squee!  But sad!  They touch each other's hand through the bullet-proof glass of the visiting booth.  I almost died.

One Tree Hill: "Something I Can Never Have"
Okay, forgive me if I am scattered or forget about some things because there was so much going on in this episode that it's hard to keep it all straight.  I will start with Lucas and Brooke.  It is immediately after the wedding, and Lucas is dropping her off.  He says flat out that she has to stay, he doesn't want her to leave.  She tearfully agrees that she doesn't want her to leave either.  They're just becoming friends again (or for the first time?), and she has to leave.  Sad, and cute, but sad!  Then, Anna figures out that Felix was the one that defaced Peyton's locker with the word "dyke," and she tells Peyton, who in turn tells Brooke, who in turn almost violently breaks up with Felix (HOORAY!), who then gets into trouble and is going to be sent off to military school because Anna turned him in to the principal.  So, Brooke is single once again!  She tries out the idea of staying with Peyton on her parents, and they don't go for it.  She is just about to despair and give up when Lucas (who is going to continue living with Dan so he can destroy him eventually) surprises Brooke with his old room at Karen's house, now full of her things and ready for her to live in.  Lucas and Karen convinced Brooke's parents to let her stay with Karen, and Brooke is beside herself with gratitude.  She gives Lucas this great HUG, and I almost died of the squee.  Meanwhile, Peyton is about to murder Nikki.  She worries that Jake will take off and she'll lose him all over again.  As it turns out, Andy offers to help Jake get custody of Jenny once and for all.  Jake tells a worried Peyton that he's not going to run anymore, especially now that it's not just Jake and Jenny, it's Jake and Jenny and...Peyton.  She was so happy.  And poor Keith.  The guy has gone off the deep end. :(  So, to recap: Peyton and Jake are better than ever, and Lucas and Brooke are definitely in a great position to get together sometime soon.  On a side note, Haley FINALLY realizes (too late) what a mistake it was for her and Nathan to get married, and the future of their marriage is uncertain (YAY).  Next week: will Nathan and Haley's sister (whose name, I really am sorry to say, I can't remember right now for the life of me) KISS?!  I am so pissed that I'm not a Cingular Wireless customer.  Otherwise, I'd be voting very frequently for Nathan and Haley's sister to make out like there's no tomorrow.
