Karen slowly opened her
eyes and gazed over to where Sonny was sleeping next to her. All she saw
was a note on the pillow.
Karen, I had to go to
a meeting and you looked so peaceful I didn’t want to wake you. I’ll call
you when I can. Love, Sonny
She set down the paper,
jumped in the shower and then headed downstairs. She took a seat at the
counter just as Tammy came around with a pot of coffee.
“Good morning, Karen. So,
how was your first night in your new room?” Tammy asked suspiciously as
she poured her a cup of coffee.
“It was fine, I…” Karen
stopped when it hit her, “I’m sorry, I know the rules, but…”
“Don’t worry about it.
Sonny told me that he helped you move in and that he just…fell asleep.
I’m not going to say anything to Bobbie, you’re safe.”
“Thanks, I own you one.”
“I’ll remember that, Doc.
So, you and Sonny are back together, huh? I never would have seen that
one coming. Not after everything that happened.”
“Honestly, Tammy, me either.
I’m going to head to the store. I have Serena tonight and I promised her
we’d rent a scary movie and make some popcorn. Do you need anything while
I’m out?”
Tammy shook her head as
she hurried over to a table while Karen walked out the door.
“Scott, what do you mean
you want to cancel the trip? We leave in a few hours!” Eve asked.
“I have a lot of stuff
to take care of and I just don’t think now is a good time to be going off
on vacation.”
“Please tell me that this
has nothing to do with the fact that your oldest daughter has finally found
some happiness.”
“Happiness? Give me a beak,
Eve! How can you be happy in a place that has bulletproof windows? Karen
went through a rough time with Joe and she’s not thinking clearly right
now. She’ll come around.”
“Scott, is it so hard for
you to admit that she’s in love with Sonny?”
“Don’t even…” Scott covered
his ears, “Don’t say it. She can’t be, there’s no way.”
“ Karen knows exactly what
she’s doing, there’s nothing to worry about. Now, go upstairs and pack
your bags, we have a vacation to go on!”
“We can’t go, Eve. There’s
no one to take care of Serena.”
“She’s going to Karen’s,
remember?”
“You think I’m going to
send her over there so she can hang out with that mobster?! Not a chance!”
“”Oh would you just calm
down! Nothing is going to happen, Scott. Your girls are really looking
forward to spending some time together. You can’t take that away from them
just because you’re too overprotective!”
“What’s so wrong about
wanting to protect your children?”
“If you tell Karen that
she can’t watch Serena, it’ll crush her. Do you want her to think that
you don’t trust her?”
“Of course I trust her,
Eve. She’s my daughter! I just don’t like the choices she’s making.”
“She’s an adult, get used
to it!”
“Fine, Serena can go to
Karen’s and we can go on our trip. But if something happens while we’re
gone…”
“Everything’s going to
be fine, Scott. We’re only going to be gone for a few days.”
Scott sighed angrily as
he stomped up the stairs.
“You wanted to talk to me,
Commissioner?” Kellie said standing in the doorway.
“Have a seat, Detective.
I have a case that I need you to take on. We have been trying to nail this
guy for years, but nothing seems to stick. Now, I know that you’re new
to the department, but you have an impressive background and I think you
can handle this.”
“Well, thank you for having
so much faith in me. I promise I won’t let you down.”
“I’ve asked Taggert to
back off on this one because he is too personally involved. So, if he tries
to interfere, please let me know. Here is the updated file we have on him,”
He told her handing her the thick folder.
“I’ll study this tonight
and see where to go from…” She stopped as she caught a glance at the name
printed on the folder.
Looking at it more carefully,
she saw that she hadn’t read it wrong the first time. The man she was to
have arrested was Sonny Corinthos. |
