mIRC Help Guide - Created By DragonRanger

Note: Commands are in bold red text.  When you type the commands, they should be plain text with no special formatting.

HOW TO ACCESS AN FSERVE

(1) Download the mIRC32 program from www.mirc.com and install it.

(2) When you run mIRC for the first time, this window will automatically pop up (after you close the "welcome" screen).

Full Name: People can easily access this, so you might like to only enter your first name, or perhaps enter some short saying or quote that you like.
Email Address: This can also be accessed relatively easily by others.
Nickname: This is what you will be identified by when you chat.  Any text you type to the channel is prefixed with <YourNickname>.
Alternative: This is what is used if the nickname you wanted is already taken.  This also applies if you somehow get disconnected from the chat server, and your first nickname remains for a while as a "ghost".

After entering that info, scroll down to "Blitzed: Random server" in the box below "IRC Network" and select it.  Do not click "Connect to IRC Server" just yet.  We still have some more options to select before we are ready to connect.

(3) Click on "DCC" in the "Category:" column.  Select your settings so that they match those shown in the picture.

(4) Click on the "+" next to "DCC" in the "Category:" column, and select "Folders".  Make your settings match those shown in the picture.

(4) Click on the "Edit" button under "default" in the previous menu.  A window similar to that shown in the left picture should pop up.  Clicking the large button (labeled C:\ in this picture) under "Into this Folder:" will pop up a window similar to that shown in the picture on the right.  You can use this window to either type in the path where you want your downloaded files to go to, or navigate using the folder hierarchy below the text box.  Whichever method you use, this will be where all of the episodes that you download go to.

(5) Click on "Server" in the "Category:" column, under the "DCC" category.  Configure the options to match those in the picture.  These settings are equivalent to using the /dccserver +sc on 59 command that you will likely encounter later when accessing certain fserves.

Now that you have configured the essential options, you can go back to the "Connect" category and click the "Connect to IRC Server" button.

(6) This window should pop up after you have connected to the Blitzed server (though, it should contain a large number of names of chat rooms -- channels).  The channel we want, #power-rangers, is not listed anywhere in this list.  You can either type #power-rangers in the box below "Enter name of channel to join:", then click the "Join" button, or close the mIRC Channels Folder window, and....

Type /j #power-rangers in the large white box at the very bottom of the mIRC program window.  This box is where all commands and text are entered in chat.  When you join the channel, a window inside of the the mIRC program window will open up (the #power-rangers channel window).

HOW TO REGISTER YOUR NICK (NICKNAME) ON BLITZED

Nickname registration prevents others from "stealing" your nickname (unless they get ahold of your password), and allows you to access certain fserves that require that your nickname be registered.  To register your nick with NickServ, type /ns register password e-mail
 - Replace the word password with a password of your choice, and the word e-mail with your e-mail address.  NEVER give out your password.  Also, you should always register and identify in the "Status" window (the one labeled "Blitzed YourNickname").  This way, if you make a mistake (such as forgetting the / ), your password isn't broadcasted to the entire channel.  Example:
/ns register cuckoo birdy@funbirds.com

HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR NICK ON BLITZED

Once you come back online after disconnecting at any point after your initial registration, you must identify to your nickname so that NickServ recognizes you as the owner of your nick.  To identify yourself to NickServ, type /ns identify password
 - Replace the word password with the password you chose when you registered.  Example: /ns identify cuckoo

Need help and it isn't covered in this help guide?  Contact one of the kind people on #Power-Rangers on Blitzed with @ next to their nick.  They are not always at their computer, so please be patient in waiting for a response.  If you wish, you may ask your question to the general channel and see if anyone there has an answer to it.
