Abalon (cont.)

(Hospital Room)
Lucas: Let’s not do this; we’re not ready.
Julianna: I know. Thank you, Lucas. (they kiss)
Julianna’s brother: (enters room, sees Lucas and Julianna on bed kissing) What the hell are you doing with my sister?
Lucas: (sits up) Wha— uh, nothing.
Julianna’s brother: Didn’t look like nothing.
Julianna: It’s true, we were doing nothing. I wanted to do something but Lucas wanted to do nothing.
Lucas: No, no, no, look it’s my fault. It was a mistake and we know that mow and I’m sorry.
Julianna’s brother: Just get your coat, OK. I’m going to take you home. And if I was you I’d get the hell out of here before I twist your head off.
Lucas: I’m gone. (goes to leave, stops as Julianna comes back in) Look ... (goes to kiss Julianna)
Julianna’s brother: Don’t even think about it, Ace.
Lucas Wolenczak: (leaves room, from door) Bye.

(seaQuest DSV – Sea Deck) Kristin Westphalen: Primitive gills were grafted to their backs and then their body tissues were completely saturated in highly oxygenated water. They were able to survive for approximately twenty-four hours. Of course, these are just the initial experiments done in the 1940s, before animal experimentation was outlawed. This is Doctor Franklin Wise — genetically speaking, Mika’s father. He headed up the project originally, until his credentials were pulled. Apparently, he tried the experiment on humans, and there were some fatalities. According to our records, he committed suicide in 1953.

(Bridge)
Bridger: Come left sixteen degrees, back off power.
Hitchcock: Coming left sixteen degrees. (ship hits rocks)
Bridger: Reverse thrust. Go gentle, ten percent.
Hitchcock: Reverse thrust ten percent.
Bridger: We don’t want to dent the fenders.
Hitchcock: We can’t get off the rocks, sir.
Bridger: Full astern, fifty percent.

(Abalon’s Lair)
Kaman: Metabolism has slowed to seventeen percent.
Abalon: Prepare the water, please. (alarm beeps, turns to see seaQuest on screen)

(seaQuest DSV – Bridge)
O’Neill: I’m picking up communications, sir.
Bridger: All right, put it up.
Abalon: (on screen) Welcome to Abalon.
Bridger: Thank you. I’m Captain Bridger of the seaQuest.
Abalon: (on screen) Oh, I know who you are, Captain Nathan Hale Bridger.
Bridger: We’ve come for our Commander.
Abalon: (on screen) And you have my daughter. Thank you for bringing her home. (screen goes blank)
Bridger: O’Neill, get him back.
O’Neill: He’s got a communication block on, sir.
Bridger: (to Mika) Will you take us?
Mika: Yes.

(Abalon’s Lair)
Shan: (entering) This guy ought to fire his interior decorator.
Crocker: Yeah, tell me about it.
Abalon: (coming over) Please, this is my child. (hugs Mika) I was so worried about you, Mika. I think you know me, Captain, I’m still alive. Does that surprise you?
Bridger: All of this surprises me.
Abalon: Faking my suicide was a card trick.
Bridger: Makes you about a hundred thirty-five years old, doesn’t it?
Abalon: I expect to live another hundred years. I find the high ion content and the low temperatures prevent decay, possibly even death. It’s given me time to perfect my work, and, as you can see, I’ve created my own children. I made them pure so they can thrive in the bounty of the oceans. This time they’ll take care of their world, respect it. This is the future, Nathan, you’re welcome to share it with us.
Bridger: Where is Commander Ford?
Abalon: Mika, you will stay with us?
Mika: No.
Abalon: But this is your home.
Bridger: I want my Commander. (Abalon pushes button on remote, revealing Ford immersed in a tank of water) Oh, God.
(He grabs chair and breaks open tank, Shan and Crocker fight Kaman and Shapra as Bridger retrieves Ford from the tank.)
Kaman: (grabs gun) Hold it!
Abalon: Kaman, no, let them go. Mika’s made her choice. Good-bye, Mika.
Bridger: This doesn’t have to be this way.
Abalon: Oh, yes, Captain, yes, it does.
(Bridger, Shan, Crocker, Ford, and Mika leave. Abalon watches seaQuest on screen)
Abalon: I know you’ll be coming back, Captain Nathan Hale Bridger. Or others will.

(Stinger)
(Lucas is driving along, jamming to music, when he notices some flashing lights behind him.)
Lucas: Oh, great.

(seaQuest DSV - Bridger’s Room)
Bridger: (comlink buzzes) Yes, officer?
Traffic policeman: (on screen, checks card) Do you know a Lucas Wolenczak?
Bridger: Yes. What’s wrong?
Traffic policeman: (on screen) I just pulled him over for reckless operation of a sub-surface vehicle.
Bridger: The only Lucas Wolenczak I know is attending a conference at the Sanger Institute. (officer moves vid-link to view of Wolenczak)
Lucas: (on screen) It’s me, Captain.

(Med Bay)
Mika: (Ford wakes to see Mika) How do you feel?
Ford: Better. I know what you did for me, thank you.
Mika: You’re welcome.
Ford: Any idea what you’re going to do next?
Mika: I’m not sure, I’ve never been a real person before. But Captain Bridger told me that if I needed any help, you would all be here for me.
Ford: We will. Do you think that, uh, there’s any chance that we might be able to go out some time?
Mika: I don’t think so.
Ford: Why, why not? Is there something about me you don’t like?
Mika: Oh, no, I think I could like you a lot.
Ford: What is it then?
(Mika turns her back to him and pulls down her robe to reveal gills on her back. She holds up her hands to reveal that her fingers are webbed. She then shrugs back into her robe and turns to face him again.)
Ford: (pause) Have you ever been to the ballet? What do you say I take you some time?
(Mika smiles.)

(Bridger’s Room – Later)
Lucas: I’m sorry, Captain.
Bridger: It’s OK.
Lucas: No lecture?
Bridger: No, not for anything as dumb as this. Just don’t do it again.
Lucas: I won’t.
Bridger: Give me the keys to the Stinger.
Lucas: Here. (Fumbles in his pocket, drops keys and condom. Bridger reaches down and picks up both of them.)
Bridger: This yours?
Lucas: Not exactly. You can keep it if you want.
Bridger: I used to carry one of these in my pocket when I was sixteen. Carried it for years. Why don’t you carry this in your wallet?
Lucas: Thank you.
Bridger: You’re welcome.
