SYNOPSIS
Young Chad Martin is wandering along a shallow stream
with his older brother Danny not far behind. Not far down the
road, Billy and Mentor are traveling in their RV when the Elders
call. Stopping to answer, Billy is told by Solomon that he will
have to reveal his identity to save a human life and that he
will meet someone who feels he cannot cope with society. Mercury
then says that Billy needs to prove how wrong this unfortunate
person is and how worthwhile he really is.
Meanwhile, going up the bank to the road, Chad
is almost run down by an approaching Billy and Mentor. Stopping,
the duo run to check on Chad. Finding him unhurt, they also
discover the reason Chad didn't see them: he is blind.
When Mentor offers to give the two boys a ride
home, Danny offers to repair the front bumper of the RV, which
was slightly damaged when Billy and Mentor stopped to help Chad.
The younger brother goes inside the house to his room, feeling
sorry for himself. Billy tries to make friends with the boy,
but Chad rebuffs him at first. Finding a football and a bell,
Billy gets a brilliant idea.
Bringing Chad out of the house and into the yard,
Billy shakes the football, encouraging Chad to listen for the
ringing sound, and then tosses the ball to him, which the boy
catches. Chad finally begins to enjoy himself, but when he tries
to run for a pass, the lad trips and falls over a dead tree limb.
Throwing the branch aside, Chad runs back into the house, disgusted.
Later, feeling anger and self-pity, Chad sneaks out of the house
and runs away. Danny, Billy, and Mentor search for him and then
agree to split up. Billy and Mentor go one way while Danny goes
another.
Spotting Chad, Danny slides down a bank and runs
right into a rattlesnake, which bites him on the leg. Calling
to his brother, Danny explains his predicament and, Chad, over
his older brother's objections, sets out to find Billy and Mentor
to tell them what has happened.
Chad does catch up wit Billy and Mentor, but unfortunately,
the paramedic kit back in the RV. With time running out for Danny,
Billy must transform into Captain Marvel right then and there.
He reveals to Chad who he really is and the boy promises to keep
his secret. By only sound and smell, Chad leads Mentor back
to Danny while Captain Marvel goes back for the paramedic kit.
Meanwhile, Danny tries to walk back on his own
but doesn't get far before he is buried in a rockslide. Luckily,
Captain Marvel finds Danny and quickly uncovers him from the
rocks. Then, using a wireless emergency transmitter, our hero
administers the snakebite serum with the help of a nearby hospital,
fixing Danny's wounds. Both boys learn the valuable lesson that
even though Chad is blind, he is not as handicapped as either
of them might think and can do many things if he relies on his
other senses. With Danny responding well to the serum and out
of danger, Captain Marvel and Mentor take the boys home and resume
their journey.
