Alec Baldwin, star of the Broadway revival of Twentieth Century, will fill in for Regis Philbin and serve as co-host to Kelly Ripa on ABC's "Live with Regis & Kelly", April 16 at 9 AM (ET). Check local listings.
Baldwin, seen last in the Off-Broadway production of Trumbo, has previously trod the Broadway boards in the Loot, Serious Money, the benefit Short Talks on the Universe and was nominated for a 1992 Tony Award for his turn in A Streetcar Named Desire. The Long Island native has appeared in such films as David Mamet's "State and Main" and "Glengarry Glen Ross," Craig Lucas' "Prelude to a Kiss" (reprising his Off-Broadway role), "Pearl Harbor" and "Beetlejuice."
The new Ken Ludwig adaptation of Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur's comedy began performances Feb. 27 at the American Airlines Theatre and opened March 25. The show is currently slated to play through June 6.
Baldwin (A Streetcar Named Desire) stars in the play with Anne Heche (Proof), Tom Aldredge (Into The Woods) and Julie Halston (Gypsy) as directed by Walter Bobbie (Chicago).
Twentieth Century is the 1932 comedy set aboard the title luxury train en route from Chicago to New York. In an effort to revive his failing career, a Broadway producer hops on the Twentieth Century Limited to convince a famous movie actress (who also happens to be his former protege) to sign a contract with him.
