A crackerjack surgeon, Alan's on-again/off-again wife faced her worst fear - not being desirable - and found something even more frightening: the wrath of her spurned lover, Dr. Pierce Dorman.
In 1976, Monica was stunned when her true love - and husband Dr. Jeff Webber's brother - Dr. Rick Webber turned out to be alive.
Despite her love for Rick, Monica married Dr. Alan Quartermaine in 1978.
A year later, Monica gave birth to Alan Jr., whom Alan suspected was Rick's son (but wasn't).
In 1982, Monica allowed Alan to take in his illegitimate son by the late Susan Moore, Jason.
Without realizing their relation, Monica slept with her nephew, Ned Ashton, in 1988.
The following year, Monica was reunited with her long-lost daughter, Dawn Winthrop, who promptly became involved with Ned.
In 1994, Monica underwent a mastectomy and afterwards, rebuffed Alan's advances.
Monica and Alan took in her friend and fellow cancer patient Page Bowen's daughter, Emily, when she died in 1995.
Feeling unattractive, Monica succumbed to the charms of younger man Pierce Dorman in 1996, then was suspected of murdering him in 1997.
