After the video, Brian and Justin had let out a sigh of relief. There would be no court battle needed. Sarai was theirs. Sarai had screamed with joy knowing that she didn’t need to leave them. They decided to eat before getting into the rest of it and Uncle Yonni sat at the table. They talked and Brian found out more information about Yonni’s connection with Sarai’s family. As Brian listened, asked questions, and saw the interaction between Uncle Yonni and Sarai he knew he had to let them see each other.
After dinner, they sat down again for the reading of the will. Sarai sat on Brian’s lap. Of course, Sarai was first up. Yonni explained, “I couldn’t persuade the Semerads to have the legal mumble jumble. I only got them to use a small portion of that criteria, but this is legal and binding. They had three wills set up, one if Sabra died first, one if Sol died first, and this one if both died together or within days of each other. They did not want to write a super long one covering all contingencies. The intricacies have that mumble jumble but not this. This will is very explicit but not like most wills I has drawn up. Questions will only be taken at the end of the reading. The will also will not allow for petty pride to get in the way of what is so written.” He continued by reading the will. “I Sabra Semerad am of sound mind and body and all I set forth is legal and binding. I, Sabra Semerad, bequeath to our daughter two million dollars for each year of her life to the point of our mutual combined death to be distributed and held in trust as follows: If she is younger than sixteen, she will receive 1500 dollars a month for spending money and to save. After her sweet sixteen she is to have her allotment increased to 2500 dollars a month. Two million extra will be added to her inheritance at graduation of high school and again at the culmination of her bachelor’s degree in college. When she goes into college, the allotment doubles. If she goes on to graduate school an extra 5 million will be given to her per graduation of each level. Sarai is to be free to choose her own life and career. We only ask that she do something that will make her happy and bring passion to her life. Sarai, money doesn’t grow on trees and we hopefully have instilled a value we hope you have learned that money given to you freely is not as important as money gladly earned and to be with you as you are growing up, we request that you do not smoke or do drugs as you are growing up or else the penalty clause will fall in place and you will not be allowed access to your money until age 30. This includes marijuana. We want you to grow up without crutches and a drug is a crutch. We want you to continue to learn to cope with things on your own. Remember the rule, everything in moderation and that goes with everything you do. Be ambitious, be passionate, be loving and caring, but most of all be true to yourself and love yourself. Sarai, there will be more money coming to you as you get older in stages. This is outlined in a separate codicil. At each stepping stone of your life, a new codicil will be read so that you know we thought of everything for you. There is one for your wedding, one for your children if you have any, etc. There will be more explained later in this document.” The people in the room were incredulous. She was worth more than twenty six million dollars and counting.
“Now, we move on. I bequeath to Brian Kinney as I said before the care of my daughter. We know that you are a proud man and don’t expect anything from us, nor will your pride allow money given. Well, too bad, suck it up Kinney. We love you and how you have always been to our daughter. Money can’t come with us so we decided to spread our worth. So be in for even more of a shock. We bequeath also to you monies totaling one billion dollars. Yes, I said one billion. Sarai’s potion far surpasses that. We are only giving her a stipend as she is so young but once she reaches a certain age we will give her the rest. You aren’t touching any of her fortune. You are honest, straightforward, loving, and a great person so please accept our small expression of our gratitude. You see the potential in our daughter even more than we did. For that small action is priceless to us. We aren’t finished yet with you. Take a deep breath Brian.”
“Justin, you have been a godsend as well to Sarai. She constantly tells us how you respect and treat her. You are never condescending and reach her at her level while making her reach higher. Her words. For the leaps and bounds she has made because of you, you will also receive one billion dollars. Justin never lose that quality of yours that helps you reach anyone at their level. It is a precious gift. Now the piece de resistance. We love how you cherish the children you have and may have in the future. Your hearts are so open to sharing love.”
“On that note, We are giving you a million dollars for each of your children Brianna Daphne and Justine Sadie, Gus, and for each of your future children yet unborn and unnamed. Let’s just say this is the gift that keeps on giving. And Brian, you are not allowed to deny us this pleasure for being their aunt and uncle in absentia. We love Gus and the twins so much and know we would have loved those yet to come.”
“Emmett, we bequeath to you a lease on a storefront for either your party planning business or your love of fashion. It is for your lifetime paid in full. You can move to another location as you grow. Whatever the rent, it will be paid from a fund. There is a small monetary amount to help you start out.” Emmett’s eyes bubbled with tears. “It is up to you to make it a success.”
Gus, we have already given you money, but we know how much you love art. On your 21st birthday, you will receive a sum of money that is to be used to open your own art gallery in your name or the name you choose for it. I know you have galleries to show your work but it never hurts to have your own. It is an artist’s dream after all.”
“Now for the household, Pierre and Marie… will get a $100,000, as well as, Sol and Sadie… for their unrelenting love and hospitality for those who walk into El Nido De Amor. “
“Now to something Kinney you won’t feel uncomfortable. In your name, a special foundation has been formed to work toward the cure for spinal injuries.” The will continued on and on. Brian was in shellshock. Justin beamed at this special foundation. “Also, we have created two other foundations, one for helping those in need that have similar health problems as Sarai, and one for you Justin. We know of the bashing and such. You will always suffer from that. We didn’t know how to help you and then we thought why not a special foundation for Gay rights working to enlighten and educate those who are not gay and show them you are the same as the rest of us, and its other function would be to monitor the courts and to help pay for lawyers of those bashed and to make sure that laws are changed and move forward about gays. It is a national foundation…”
Again the will continued.
“This Last Will and Testament cannot be changed and there are penalties for not accepting our generosity.” It went further on to explain said penalties. “You have questions. Don’t worry. You aren’t touching Sarai’s fortune. On her 25th birthday, she will be receiving her full inheritance of 20 billion plus dollars. I want her to get used to the idea that she is rich but money isn’t important for happiness. It helps but it isn’t the criteria for happiness. Happiness comes from within and I know you will instill that in her. We have so much money yet we lived in our humble home because we weren’t into ostentatious flaunting. By the time of her birthday to receive her monetary gains it will have increased substantially. The old saying, money begets money is true. On a final note, our business is booming but even without us it has a life of its own. We request your help Brian Kinney and Justin Taylor to oversee our business and in so doing, you will get a stipend or salary for your help. Brian, before you can object. I know of your health. This is being taken into consideration and you will be chairing the board via your home via video conferencing. When you can be there in person that will be great but don’t rush it. You will be given a set of instructions with what I intended for the future and what choices I want you to make on your own. We deal with our employees with honesty and forthrightness. We treat our employees as family and we have a special department to help them with life’s crisis. You will get info on that too. You are the only ones I trust. The business will be changed over to your confident hands and Justin’s. Justin, you too will get a set of instructions for your part as well. The two of you will be running the business. Yeah, Yeah, I know. You are an artist and not a businessman. No fears.” It continued.
Then at the very bottom was a Last Will and Testament of her husband. Here is an excerpt.
“I completely agree and hold Sabra’s Will as exactly like I would have done. Actually, we both did it. I give my blessings to all that has been set forth in the above will and hope that all parties mentioned will help us with what is to be laid out before you. I also add that I would like you two to be chairpersons or spokepersons to your respective foundations. Keep an eye on them. Push their buttons. Don’t let them slack, especially on the one for gay rights. Thank you again, for being there for Sarai.”
Brian and Justin were numb. Overwhelmed was more likely. Both had eyes daring to tear. The impact was yet to come. They had to figure out all of what this meant for them, for the family, and for their future and for Justin. When Brian was thinking of retiring from his business to just paint, he now found himself with more to juggle. How were they going to do everything? Yonni had promised to come by the next day to go over everything again that they had to understand.
