Episode 6.14 The Legend of Sleepy Halliwell

Okay, it's time we go give Cameron Litvack a big old pat on the back. He does everything right, unlike Brad Kern, and manages to write decent episodes. I mean, like "Chris-Crossed" was even better than the mediocre episodes that Brad Kern and his fellow writers wrote. Whoever hired Mr. Kern and the writers he's infected must be going, "Oh, dear, what have I done to Charmed!" But I mean, overall, this episode was pretty good. I just loved Piper's line of, "Okay. Hey, neurotic people, can we get back to my neurosis, please?" and then Phoebe's reply of, "Sure. Which one were we talking about?" Ha! That makes me laugh, and when I rewatched the tape I played that part over and over again.

1. Paige

Geez, it seems that the writers are actually trying to maintain an independent "reality" for Paige. It's kind of funny to think of Paige as Professor Matthews, though, but I like that. And I guess the whole ox thing from "Witchstock" kind of implies here.

How much do I hate how the writers are developing Richard as a more evil character now? We saw in the previous episode that Richard's goodness was kind of corrupted, but I hate how the writers are trying to rid themselves of Balthazar Getty! Paige and Richard are good for each other, and I don't like what they're doing to him.

Rejected!
Should the writers get rid of Richard?

2. Phoebe

Phoebe didn't bother me too much during this episode. Usually during one of the episodes I wanna fly over to California and kick Alyssa, but at this episode, I was lacking that emotion. I mean, it makes sense that the writers had Phoebe use her powers to find Chris' true identity, because she's the one with premonitions, and it's not like Piper could use her powers, so it made sense that it was Phoebe. And I loved it when the sisters got their bodies restored and Phoebe started hugging her body and Paige said, "Do you want me to get you a room?" That describes what we all think of Ms. Milano.

Others Notes and Nitpicks

• The title of this episode refers to a short story by Washington Irving, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," and the episode draws plot elements from that story, namely the Headless Horseman. However, the magical academy shown in this episode very closely resembles Hogwart's Academy from the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling.
• The demons that attack Phoebe in her vision quest are Swarm Demons, which first appeared in "Used Karma".
• Paige asks Piper about Ziggy Marley being scheduled to play at the club previously and Piper replies that he had to reschedule. This exchange refers to actual events—Ziggy Marley was originally supposed to appear in "Chris-Crossed". but, obviously, did not.
• Piper mentions that Paige has not been able to reach Richard by telephone for two days. Doesn't she live with him though?Shouldn't she know where he is?
• How did Sigmund know that the girl that the sisters see in the great hall was levitating and, therefore, late for levitation class? His head was in a bag.
• Gideon had the ability to see all of the sisters' problems and worries even though he had just met them. How could he have not sensed that Zachery was responsible for the Headless Horseman when he often had contact with him?
• How did Zachery's telepathic abilities allow him to use other students' and teachers' powers? Telepaths can only read and control people's thoughts, not borrow others' powers. Zachery supposedly uses Piper's power to freeze all of the teenagers, but good witches do not freeze.
• When Paige makes the argument that she does not think Zachery would kill the sisters, Phoebe backs her up by saying that she did not feel any anger coming from Zachery, just sorrow. But in the manor, she comments that he is "telepathing a lot of rage."
• Why did Gideon seem so concerned about the athame at his throat? If he is an Elder, the only thing that should be able to kill him is a darklighter's arrow.

Best line of the episode: "Do you want me to get you a room?" - Paige
Worst dressed of the episode: Paige, although it's kind of unfair to say that.

The only reason I disliked Paige's wardrobe, was just because she had to wear that ridiculous robe. I mean, yes, I see that it's Magic School, but not every school has to have a uniform. She would have looked fine in her other outfits. Although, that dress she wore at the end of the episode was okay.

I didn't like that blue denim jacket with the scarf around it that Piper wore, but I guess I can accept it because Holly Marie Combs is pregnant and she needed to cover up her breasts otherwise the pregnancy would have been really obvious. But I really, really hated that oriental japanese shirt at the end. Or whatever it was. She wore something like that in "Sin Francisco" and I hated that, as much as I hated her shirt at the end this time.

I guess I can say that Phoebe looked okay. Not much cleavage, and I saw much more clothes on her body. I liked the blue blouse with the ripples across it. It had a nice match on her. I HATED that ugly wool sweater at the end though. She was covering up skin, yeah, but geez, she doesn't need to be so ... grandmother-like.

Scruffy Leo looked good. His hair may have been overspiked in that scene where he was pissed at Chris, but overall, I liked it.
