Victoria Barkley was a lady’s lady
Who was strong and true
She settled in the west
With her husband good and true
She helped him build up the land
As a place they could call their own
They raised their large family
And then they were well known.
Victoria knew passion and pain
In her marriage was torn
From her husband’s ultimate betrayal
From another woman, a child was born.
They fought long and hard
Against the railroad men
But the battle was lost
And she was alone again.
His betrayal reared its ugly head
In the form of his child
A grown up man of twenty four
Who was quickly riled.
She wept in private
As the pain was great
No one knew her pain
As the years grew late.
She accepted him as her son
Loved him as her own.
Soothed his anger and pain
With her soothing tone.
She shouted at the heavens
But calmed as she knew she would
And accepted this son of his
Making Heath’s life good.
As the family grew closer together
They showed strength, kindness and love
Accepting the outsider as one of their own
With a little push and shove
The years grew dimmer and dimmer
The betrayal was all but lost
They looked upon the arrival with pride
And were happy that he was worth the cost.
