Nick’s Lament
by Lindabrit
Now just
listen here, I’ve got something to say,
I’m not any
old cowboy you see every day.
You won’t find
one like me in a long day’s ride,
for I am a
Barkley and I have my pride!
So if you want
to know what this is about
I’m sick of my
Mother telling me not to shout!
I’m the boss
of this ranch and a leader of men,
does she
expect me to cluck like a hen?
Each day I
come in is the same as before,
her first
words are “sshhh and don’t slam the door!”
I’m naturally
noisy and I loudly rejoice,
all she says
is “Nicholas, lower your voice!”
How can I be
master of all I survey,
when folks
hear my Mama treat me this way?
I’m six feet
four and built like a wall,
so how could I
have a voice that is small?
I was born to
rant and built to roar,
or what am I a
Barkley for?
Not for me
diplomacy and the olive branch,
GET OUT OF MY
WAY,THIS IS A WORKING RANCH!
