Sheriff Madden’s Lament

I’m the Sheriff of Stockton City, you can call me Fred,

I really like my job and I’m good too, so it’s said.

I try to run a quiet town which I can do with ease,

except for one big problem, that’s the pesky Barkleys!

As citizens, the Barkleys are respectable that’s for sure,

but whenever they’re around, the crime rate seems to soar!

I don’t know why exactly, but it happens all the time,

a Barkley just shows up and hey presto, you got crime!

Now Jarrod he’s a lawyer, a great defender so they say,

but he seems to like investigating and getting in my way.

As soon as I think I’ve cracked a case and done the best I can,

Up jumps Counselor Barkley and says I’ve got the wrong man!

Nick’s a hard-working rancher, he toils hard from first light,

then it’s into town for a cold beer and next thing there’s a fight!

He’s tough, he’s hard and he’s fearless, got quite a temper too,

That boy don’t use diplomacy when his two fists will do!

Now Heath’s the quiet, type but I think the poor boy’s cursed,

He tries to stay out of trouble, but he always comes off worst.

And as for Mizz Victoria, well she can be so bossy,

I need some peace and quiet, think I’ll run off with the posse!
