From A Day in the Life to In Sickness and In Hell

Gary compares some of the comedic episodes:

The comedies on Xena:Warrior Princess are varied, and the personalities of the characters come out in different ways.

First, near and dear to my heart is the best one,A Day in the Life, which is not just funny ,but is endearing and heart-felt in many ways. When Gab is angry about Xena using their only frying pan to fight the bad guys,it is a continuing theme thru the show....even as Gab trades Xena's whip to Minia for a new frying pan.

Xena tossing the fish and hitting Gab in the face over and over...the splashing in the tub scene, and the question:"Are you sitting on the soap?"....just great. Michael Hurst directed this episode with a certain flair, and with compassion.

The kite scene was great, with Xena looking like a little kid trying to get it off the ground....also,when Gab is trying to calm down, she gets knocked down by the "flying parchment". This also happens in Fin,Femmes, and Gems. Also, after Gab jumps to knock Xena down, and climbs up her armor and grabs her breastplate as a handle, with the sound of a horn going off....great! Then she ends the scene saying "Your flying parchment is stuck in a tree."

The dialogue with Xena and Gab about how to discourage Hauer is realistic....wear smelly skins, don't bathe....

beat him up..."he might like it"....

The touching scene at the end where they are looking up at the stars and then Gab finally hits Xena with her staff,as she tried to do all

day...Xena says Gab got her fair and square, but Gab doubts it and the show ends with her saying "you let me hit you"....

All in all,the show gave us humorous scenes, without a "laugh-out-loud" type of humor.

In the episode In Sickness and in Hell,we have a completely different scenario. I think this episode, tho not the best, is the funniest, just with the slapstick-type humor. We see two beautiful women covered with "goat-poo",having the "runs" from the sickness, and heaving every other minute. Also, gross but funny,is when Gab is questioning the bad guy,and drools all over him. When at the jail,he will not talk,so Xena tells Gab to go and give him a big kiss....the guy crumbles and talks, seeing the drool all over again.

The fight with Gab and the "widdle bunny" is priceless, and seeing Gab battle a crazed and drugged-out rabbit was a scream.

In the cave, when Joxer comes back without finding Argo,Gab says "and we had such hopes..." in a sarcastic way....a great delivery.

When Gab has to scratch her fungus (while Xena has lice) she uses Xena's Chakram wedged in the rocks so she can scratch....Xena wants it back and Gab won't give it back. Xena makes like she is going to put the pinch on her,and Gab says "You want to put the pinch on me? Go ahead...you can't touch me...you're not so tough now,are you.Warrior Princess?"..What a great jab at the show itself, and the scene worked beautifully.

At the tavern where Joxer introduces Xena and Gab,the villagers shield their kids from the sight of the girls, and wave the air because of the smell. With the continuous scratching and disheveled look,it was hilarious.

To make these two beautiful women go thru so much, and STILL look great was truly unique....nothing could spoil their beauty.

While the two episodes weree funny in their own way,it showed that RenPics can do something great if they WANT to. Other "comedies " that didn't seem to work were A Tale of Two Muses,The Key to the Kingdom, and the truly awful Married With Fishsticks. The lines in Married were horrible.....Discord: "Eat me,hosebag"....Aphrodite:saying that Discord had "Open all night" embroidered on her underwear....these lines went to the lowest level not worthy of the show.

If RenPics can do another Day or In Sickness before the series ends,it will be a truly great service to the fans.
