Why Not Callisto?
Why,indeed? Why is she excluded by RenPics as someone in another incarnation
but never is able to have any self-awareness about it?
Examples of others who were able to do this were Alti,Xena,Gabby,and Joxer.
First,in THE XENA SCROLLS,Mel Pappas was in Ares' tomb and when the Chakram
was re-joined(an impossible show because the Old Chakram was melded with the
light Chakram into the New Chakram in CHAKRAM),Xena's spirit entered Mel's
body. When asked if it was Xena,she replied "yes". So,Xena,a spirit in
another's body,was self-aware that she existed as Xena.She then could do all
the Xena-stunts we have always seen fighting Ares.
In BETWEEN THE LINES,we see that Xena is sent to the future,still in ancient
times,into another lifetime,or incarnation. She knows she is herself,but is
stunned to see her reflection as an old woman from India.
She is a peaceful type,trying to stop wars,almost like a Ghandi.
Gabby is sent later,knowing she will be with Xena. Gabby arrives in that
incarnation as a male,but thinking like a female.Note: When Xena is in a
Joxer-like body in DEJA VU,he/she is thinking like a male.
In LINES,Gabby thinks like a female,because she covers her naked chest by
instinct,even tho the body is a man's.She knows she is Gabrielle at all
times.
Alti,in this lifetime,knows she is Alti...even tho she looks different,and
still wants to conquer the world. She still has the power to make people see
past and future lives.
In DEJA VU,it gets complicated. We see a Joxer-body and a Xena-body in bed
together. They are living together,and are not aware in the beginning of who
their spirits really are.At the Regression place where Mattie(really Gabby's spirit in this
incarnation),they all go under the regression to past lives thing. All now
know they are who they used to be. The catch is the body-switch with Xena
and Joxer. Joxer-body/Harry is really Xena,and Xena-body/Annie is really
Joxer...in spirit.Mattie is Gabby. Confusing? You bet.
In SOUL POSSESSION,Ares switches the bodies back to their proper body-spirit
match. They still know who they are,even tho now they have different bodies
from their birth-bodies.
In DEJA VU,"Xena" and Mattie go off together,looking like a male-female
couple. They are married later,as seen in SOUL POSSESSION. When the bodies
are switched,we now have two females married,they go off together.
The long-awaited "are they or aren't they?" question is answered,at least
for this incarnation. I do not believe Gab and Xena were lovers during the
Ancient Greece time.
So,again,why not Callisto?Cal is killed and is in hell,not Tartaras,and is sent to try to get Xena
from her Way in IDES OF MARCH.She steals Xena's Chakram,just like she did in
CALLISTO,and hits Xena in the back with it,breaking Xena's back and the
Chakram.
In FALLEN ANGEL,we see Cal in hell. Xena and Gab,after dying on crosses,go
to heaven,hell,back and forth. Cal is rescued by Xena giving up her own
goodness and trading places with Cal. Now Cal is an angel.She cannot
remember her past life as an evil killer.
When Eli is trying to bring the girls back to life,Callisto superimposes her
hands over his,bringing Xena and Gab back to life.Before leaving,Cal touches
Xena,making Xena pregnant. We see that Xena is aware of this state in ANIMAL
ATTRACTION.
When Eli is killed by Ares,Cal tells Xena that it was she who is really the
"father".Now,Cal is told by Michael that it is her time to get ready to be
born into another incarnation. Cal's spirit goes into Xena then.
Question: Why two acts to have a soul in a body? We see in THEM BONES that
Alti wants the baby's spirit...it is a ball of light.This is the
soul/life-force/spirit we have seen throughout the series. When Xena is in
the spirit-world to fight Alti,the baby's soul is represented by a ball of
light.
When the girls die on the cross,only their "souls" come out of the
bodies,looking like their live bodies. There is no second ball of light.
Why not Callisto? Eve is born,then is taken away to Rome to live as Livia
for almost 25 years,during which Xena and Gabby are sleeping in an ice-cave.
Never during this time is Livia aware that SHE IS REALLY CALLISTO and is her
own father. There is one vague reference by Xena to Gab that Eve has
qualities of both herself and Callisto,but neither Gab nor Xena ever tell
Eve/Livia this. There is no "looking in the water and seeing your spirit
reflected" stuff going on,either,as we have seen in QUEST and LITTLE
PROBLEMS.
Why doesn't Eve ever know she is the embodiment and soul of Xena's worst
enemy,the one who aided Hope to kill Solon by being her protector,and Cal
being Perdicus' murderess,the day after Gab's wedding?
I believe that RenPics really fouled up on this one. They should have had
some flash of recognition by Eve/Livia,at least showing Callisto's face in a
reflection. Sure,she would have been confused,but it would have been at
least consistent with what the show has presented us for six years.Why
didn't Gab or Xena level with her,especially when Xena reveals herself as
Eve/Livia's mother? It would have made for a great
situation,possibly with the warlike Livia becoming just like Callisto,and
Xena's torment as to try to kill her or redeem her.Gary in Vermont
