Xena as Centaur?

The short version is this: if Xena became a Centaur, she would have been killed as easily as Dagnan, with a big, sharp, stick. So much for world conquest.

What do we know about the Centaurs? We first meet them in Hooves and Harlots, then in Orphan of War. In Orphan, we learn that when the gods created the Centaurs, they had the choice to make them good or evil, so they chose Good. But, this is the exception in that all species are combinations of good beings or bad, or some of each. Why make a PERFECT race? In other words, all the evil was put into a stone, the Ixian Stone, and hidden. The Centaurs literally can do NO wrong.

We learn that Borias, the father of Solan, Xena’s son, had the stone all along inside the sword hilt. He had to have found it in the short time he ran off with the Centaurs he saved from Xena’s murderous plan. Nobody ever even seemed to be looking for it, but Borias was back in no time to get his son….the time period was too short for him to escape, find the stone, hide it, and come back.

Borias, as I have reviewed in Past Imperfect, spurned Xena and her army, who wanted to execute the captured Centaurs, and then kill the whole race.

Note: Xena controlled the biggest army in the world, and only was able to fight the Centaurs to a standstill. Even SHE could not beat them, but in Last of the Centaurs, Borias’ son was able to kill all but the one who was in love with his daughter. How? Was he more powerful than Xena, and with less troops?

But I digress: If Xena found the stone, and used it as Dagnan did, she would have been nothing but a bigger and uglier Xena, with only a sword, and like Dagnan, wouldn’t be able to control the world as he had hoped, too. Remember: they killed him with a huge crossbow bolt, and Xena was able to fight him ably, but it took the bolt to do it. It was almost too easy after the buildup.

Xena, as a Centaur, would have done no better than Dagnan, her former lieutenant. Why did she think she could? Besides, if she drank the potion from the stone while she was pregnant, and embodied all the evil of a whole race, would not Solon have been born a Centaur and be evil, too?

What if Solon was born before Xena became a Centaur? Would he be the same old Solon we knew?

To sum it up, if Xena succeeded and became a Centaur, she would be dead, just as Dagnan died. A bigger being only with a sword couldn’t win a war. The show told us of a possibility which only leads to speculation, much to the decline of the series.
