PLEASE READ BEFORE READING THESE SCROLLS: I've been thinking all week about what I'd say in the disclaimer to this scroll. I
was never able to figure it out, so this may ramble a bit.
Viewers had all sorts of different reactions to A Friend In Need Parts 1 and 2. My reaction was immediate and has not changed. I was outraged, saddened, and shocked that Tapert and company chose to end the series that way. The Director's Version made me feel an iota better, but an iota isn't much when you're that upset.
I pretty well figured out a way to bring Xena back immediately after the series ended. There is no way I'll ever accept that she was really dead. In my own warped fantasies (and no, I don't share them all at the site), I always had a vision of Ares and Aphrodite being the ones responsible for reviving Xena. However, with Kevin Smith's untimely death, I simply couldn't bring myself to write out that adventure for the scrolls. So Kye and I put our heads together and came up with a
similar, yet alternate solution.
Now, for the tough part. The following is the first part of a four part scroll. The scrolls are all intense, dark, violent, and unhappy. Things are NOT as they should be, and it's an angst-filled journey for Xena and Gabrielle. More than likely, there will be something in at least one of the scrolls that is going to offend or shock the reader. We are warning you in advance, PLEASE DO NOT READ THEM IF YOU CAN'T DEAL WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: rape, extreme bdsm, slavery, all female threesome, heterosexual sex between Xena and another.
For those of you who choose to stick with us, we thank you very much for putting your trust in us! We realize a month is a long time to tell this story, but we want to tell it right. And to be honest, if you're hoping to find some sort of justification for Xena's sacrificing herself in Friend In Need, you're not going to find it here. In fact, there aren't a whole lot of references to the episodes. We are basically thinking of it as a season, rather than a series ender, and in effect, are starting a new "season" with a rather wicked tale that will eventually put it all together.
Still with me? If you are, let me explain a bit about the change in format for these scrolls. To put it bluntly, Xena is still dead when the beginning of the scroll picks up, and therefore, I chose to tell the story from the point of view of Kira, whose significance will soon make itself known. It was VERY odd to not write a scroll from Xena's point of view, especially when Kira was so different, but it was the only way we could really tell the story.
We'd like to think that some of the readers will be chomping at the bit to have a sneak preview of next week's scroll, especially when considering the events this scroll ends with. Therefore, there is a brief "preview" scroll written from Xena's point of view listed as well. It will tell you a lot about what's coming up next week, so if you don't like spoilers, you won't want to read it.
