Jorgy's 1998 Year in ReviewWell this is my annual article that I write to let everyone know my thoughts and opinions on the preceding year. The year was quite an amazing year to say the least.

In late 1998 "Hollywood" Hogan appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Hogan spoke about his match with Leno a while back and then he dropped a bombshell. Hogan announced his retirement. This came as a huge shock to me considering that there was a huge Hogan/Warrior angle forming. In my mind, Hogan is the real icon of wrestling. Fans that have watched wrestling for as long as I have would most likely agree with me. It was Hogan that started it all. Love him or hate him, he will always be recognized by me, and others, as the founder of professional wrestling. It really is too bad that Hogan left the wrestling industry as a heel, I was really hoping he was going to end his career in the World Wrestling Federation as the "Immortal One." |
1998 was also an incredible year for politics. When I first heard that Jesse Ventura was running to be governor of my home state, I couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't until a few weeks before the election that I finally discovered why Ventura was becoming more and more popular. The man knows politics, believe it or not. Jesse was running against republican candidate Norm Coleman and former vice president Hubert Humphrey's son Skip Humphrey. Polls in the early going showed that Jesse basically didn't stand a ghost chance in hell of winning. Even up to a week before the election, polls still showed Jesse as the underdog. Ventura didn't allow polls to get in his way though. He kept fighting and found that advertising could help out his campaign. Jesse came out with his first television commercial that basically showed two little boys playing with a Jesse Ventura action figure and talking about politics. I thought it was the worst commercial I have ever seen but many people took a liking to it. Suprisingly, election night, Jesse won by a landslide. Perhaps this victory will change people's thoughts that all wrestlers are all big, fat, useless lugs. Like Jesse said during one of his debates "Most wrestlers have college educations, that means they they can kick your ass and find a way to get away with it." |
Many incredible things happened this year but none was bigger than the push some superstars were given. Most wrestlers were deserving of those pushes such as Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Mankind, Triple H, and even Scott Steiner. Some on the other hand, were not so deserving such as Wrath, Ernist Miller, and especially that rat they call Goldberg. Just about everyone in the WCW has jobbed at least twice to this faggot. WCW even went so far as to bring wrestlers in from Michinoku Pro and All Japan Pro Wrestling to job for this jackass. I really don't see what the big deal is about this guy. If I do recall, when he was in the WCW before he got his big push he was just about one of the biggest jobbers I've ever seen in my life. Sure he's bulked up over the past few years but he certainly isn't worthy of his streak that he has going. So WCW finally realized that they are losing viewers because of this overgrown ass, and let Kevin Nash beat him at Starrcade. But would they let Nash beat him fair and square? Absolutely not! No, the immortal Goldberg can't lose a match fair and square! So as the year ends, so does Goldie's winning streak. At the end of 1998, Goldberg's record is 173 and 1. |
