Sam's Year End Wrap Up
Written By: Sam Poulin

I geuss I will pick up where Jorgy left off. There are things that I think should be talked about that were left out of the Jorgster's report. Here they are:

I.4 words: Hell in a Cell!
This was singularly the best wrestling match I have ever seen in my life. It was at the 1998 King of the Ring and I decided to order the event to see who would be crowned king this year. When the PPV was done that objective was a distant second to the Mankind vs. Undertaker Cell match. The first couple of minutes they had the most unbelivable thing I have seen in wrestling: Undertaker throwing Mankind off the 20+ foot cage and directly through an announcers table (Spanish announce table no less). After I thought the stunt went wrong, and Mankind was dead, the SOB gets back to his feet and starts climbing the cage again! After a few more minutes of battling on top of the cage, Undertaker choke slams Super-Foley through the cage landing violently on the ring mat! Then they brought out the thumbtacks and the show was just beginning. If you missed it you really have to rent it from your local video store, it was truely amazing. You can have your Hogan vs. Andre or Hogan vs. Warrior, or legendary Ric Flair matches, but Hell in a Cell was full of action and excitement, it can't get any better...but, as Vince says, "Anything can happen in the WWF"

II.The Return of the Warrior
This just goes to show that this guy doesn't cut it anymore. He was huge in the early 90's and then he went into hiding. Well, he made a "triumphant" return to WCW and won the ratings for only 2 weeks, after that he was dead-weight. He may have worked out if he hadn't been speaking a language that could only be understood in Nepton, billons of light-years away from earth. He had the gimmick of "materializing" and "de-materializing". C'mon for Christ's Sake, this isn't Dungeons and Dragons, it's real life on LIVE tv. Now WCW has to pay the guy a lot of money for sitting on his ass eating corn chips and getting older becuase Hogan is done and they can't think of anything for him to do.

III.Goldberg
I was impressed when Goldberg wrestled his first tv match against Hugh Morris, he did the backflip in the ring and the Jackhammer was looking cool, but you coulnd't overlook the simple fact that this guy looked just like Steve Austin. A couple years after Eric Bischoff told Austin that he could make it nowhere in wrestling with black trunks and black boots he brings in this bohemoth. Bill started winning more matches and more matches and fans took a liking to him while I (and many others I have talked to) started disliking him more and more. You can't deny the fact that the only reason this guy was doing this well was because he looked like Steve Austin. He surpasses great veterans in the sport like Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Sting, Luger, Giant (the list goes on) and he goes on to take the US title. I would have thought his performance had peaked here, it was only downhill for Goldberg from now on. Not quite. His winning streak gets bigger and he is awared a title shot against Hogan on Nitro. Everyone in America said "Yeah right" to Bill Goldberg winning the title that night, but geuss what? Yep, he wins the WCW World Heavyweight Title. The Biggest injustice in wrestling history and WCW wrestleing veterans could only sit back and watch it happen. Goldberg is now known as a main event wrestler and he should give Stone Cold Steve Austin the credit!

IV.Vince McMahon's super-villan turn.
In the later half of the 90's Vince was always booed, but he wasn't a real bad guy. He was trying his best to be "Mr. Businessman" and keep the company going. In 1998 he pretty much threw his "face" career out the window. He turned on Steve Austin making himself Austin's greatest foe. Fans don't like it when Austin is messed with and Vince was (and still is) the most hated character in any promotion at this time. He got his "stooges" together (Brisco, Patterson, and Slaugter) and made a hilarious team of dumb and dumber antics. McMahon then got serious when he brought his son in and at Survivor Series 1998 he influenced Thr Rock to turn on his fans, creating "Team Corporate." On RAW the next night he recruited Ken Shamrock, brought in some more guys and the rest was history. This has been why people have been watching RAW instead of Nitro in the latter half of 1998 and hopefully it will continue deep into 1999.

Well, thats my years end wrap up. If you have any moments that you think should be mentioned that Jorgy or I missed please let us know (or write up one and we will post it). Have a good 1999!
