One thing that makes me love these artists so much is the mythology and fantacy combined. Some are erotic and esoterical. It helps to know the background of the characters depected in the paintings. I am still learning so much about all these. I will soon be adding links to pages that have full descriptions.
Here are two to get you started: http://www.ocaiw.com/bougue.htm

By far, my favorite artist (besides my sister Leilani) is William Adolphe Bouguereau. I have never seen anyone with his skill of making the human body look touchable. If he were alive today, I would probably cross hell and high water to find a way to meet him (not to mention I have a thing for men with beards). In his self portraite you can feel the debth of his soul.
This is a very nice painting by Bouguereau, Rest
This is one of his most famous paintings, The First Kiss
And now a little more grown up...The Abduction of Psyche
Get ready for some nudity on this one...Le Printemps
We all need some sunshine now and then...Rest in Harvest

John William Waterhouse is another of my favorites, with the Lady of Shallot longing for Sir Lancelot in the fabled Camelot.
This is my favorite Waterhouse painting, The Lady of Shallot
Another painting of The Lady, I Am Half Sick of the Shadows Said the Lady of Shallot
