San Antonio, Texas -- A local San Antonio group, "Citizens Of San Antonio," (C.O.S.A.) seeks to have the Mayor mark the correct date for celebration of the christening of San Antonio, Texas.

Spokesman, Michael Idrogo, states "It was Franciscan friar, Father Damien Massanet, who, recorded as 1691, came upon the area of the San Antonio River and present day La Villita upon the Feast Day of Saint Anthony of Padua."

"I have been to Saint Anthony's tomb and magnificent basilica in Padova, Italy. Saint Anthony was born in 1195 and he died at age 36 on June 13, 1231; Saint Anthony's Feast Day is celebrated on June 13."

"This city was christened after Saint Anthony on June 13th."

"Yesterday the Mayor had a resolution that May 1st be celebrated as the City's Birthday.. nothing could be more wrong! The Mayor and City Council were told that May 1st is `May Day' the celebration of the `Birth of Communism'! There is no desire to celebrate this City of San Antonio's christening date (and the historically wrong date) with the `Birth of Communism'!"

"Please call the Mayor and your city council member to let them know they need to correct the date on their resolution for the `Birth Date of San Antonio, Texas' to June 13th!" concludes Idrogo.
