STORM MAKING APPEARANCES AT COPPELL TOURNAMENT

February 28, 2002 -The Carrollton Storm took on the Coppell Outlaws for their first game of this exciting tournament.

The players worked hard at the plate during the first inning. Leadoff batter,Steven, hit a line drive base hit to right field, but was thrown out by less than an inch while trying to stretch it into a double. A combination of a base on balls and a catcher interferance call put Richie and Michael on base. They both worked their way to third and second but a strike out and a hard ground out to third ended the 1/2 inning.

The Storm players weren't afraid of attempting to get the big hits!

After one-half inning, the hits just weren't coming. The score was stuck at 0-0.

Foster took the mound with promise while Richie put on his best "Catcher's Ready!" stance.

Foster struck out the Leadoff batter of the Outlaws then forced the second batter to ground out to Steven at first base. With two outs, though, the Outlaws scored two runs on 4 consecutive hits before Foster forced another ground out to Steven at first for the third out.

This was a BIG team! The score was 0-2 after the first inning.

In the second inning, just inches from taking the lead over the Outlaws, the first three Storm batters, Jordan, Jacob, and Christopher, all struck out swinging. In the bottom of the second inning, the Storm began to show some tough defense. Jacob made an excellent grab in right field for the first out. Michael followed that with a throw from short stop to Steven at first base for the second out. Despite these great efforts, the combination of walks with two fielding errors gave the Outlaws ten runs until Foster struck out the last batter.

In the top of the third, Michael S. started the Storm off with a leadoff walk. Clinton Kelley and Steven both went down with a fight, both hitters struck out swinging but Michael was caught attempting to steal second and the side was retired. Then, Michael P. came to the mound to shut down the Outlaws but let the first batter go on a full count walk. Michael then forced the next batter to hit a ground ball back to him and threw to first for the first out. The next batter hit a grounder between first and second but Clinton was just quick enough to make the play for the second out. Two walks and two base hits later the Outlaws ended the game by scoring 15 runs in three innings.

Let it be known that Steven was by far the "Coaches Player of the Game"
