May 4, 2004 home against the Angels

The Angels led off the inning with 3up and 3down. One of those was tagged running to first base by Courtney.
At the bottom of the inning, our first 7 batters hit singles. Of those, one was put out at 2nd base and Katie C, Kira, and Ferral were credited with RBIs. The next two batters struck out ending the inning.

Honeys 4 : Angels 0

In the second inning, the Angels had more hits, (3 to be exact) but only one of those got around to score. The first hit was stopped by Cassidy, but the runner was safe at first. The second hit was down the third base line and was stopped by Katie, but again the runners were safe. The third batter hit into a fielder's choice to center field. Ferral stopped the ball and raced to second to get the runner out. The next batter hit a putt to the pitcher. Kira stopped the ball, but not before the runner at third was able to score. The next batter struck out and was followed by one who hit again, into a fielder's choice. This time, the hit was directly to Kira who was the pitcher. She threw the ball to Katie C. at third base and picked off the runner for the third out.
The second inning proved more difficult for the Honeys. Even though Katie B. got a double on a long fly ball toward center field, and Crystal got a single down the 1st base line only one run was able to score when Emily hit a single. All three outs were strike outs, stranding 2 base runners

Honeys 5 : Angels 1

The Angles started this inning at the bottom of their order with 6 out of the first 7 batters getting on base one way or another. Courtney tagged out another player on the way to first. The second out was a strike-out, but the Angels scored their maximum runs before the third out could be found.

At the bottom of the inning, the Honeys team were hitters! The first 5, got on base. Katie C. started thinds off with a fly out to left field. Kira batted her home and Ferral hit a grounder out to center field. Both she and Kira scored when Courtney hit her double and then Cassidy joined her on base with a single. (Now there was some confusion when Ferral scored. She ran home when the first base Angel over-threw to the catcher. The opposing coach sent her back to third-base, thinking she wasn't allowed to run home on an over-throw. The Honey assistant coach sent Ferral to the dugout since she had already crossed home plate. He explained that the player isn't allowed to run when the ball has been over-thrown to first base or to the pitcher, but is allowed to run when it has been over-thrown to the catcher or anywhere else. So Ferral officially scored.) Erin's single brought in Courtney, and Staci brought in Cassidy when she hit into a fielders choice. Cassidy scored the fifth run which should have ended the inning. Nevertheless, Katie B. followed Staci with a single and Crystal's single scored Staci.

Honeys 5 : Angels 1

On to the fourth inning which found the angels in the middle of their lineup. The first two batters hit singles. The third hit into a fielders choice when Katie C. (at third) caught the slow bouncer and tagged third base to put the forced runner out. Courtney followed that by tagging out yet a third runner at first base. The final batter was struck out.

That should have ended the game, but with several minutes left, and only one Honey left who hadn't batted twice, the coach persuaded the umpire to allow Abby to bat. And bat she did with a single up the middle!

Final Score:

Honeys 10 : Angels 6
