This album is truly untouchable! I have nothing but praise for it. They are like the forefathers of black metal and have created the standards by which we will judge future bands. I know many don't like Emperor, though, and that's partly because Emperor has gotten fairly popular lately. But if popularity is preventing someone from liking a band, then they weren't a true fan in the first place. The intro to "Alsvartr (The Oath)," the instrumental, "The Wanderer," and "Opus a Satana" are very beautiful moments in the album. The rest of the songs are heavier but still beautiful in their own right. (By the way.. the "bonus tracks" are really just the songs from the "Reverence" EP). It is easy to see the Norwegian influences in their music and their similarity to Dimmu Borgir. Both bands, in my opinion, are equally excellent and I couldn't put one higher than the other. Emperor has created a fantastic, unbelievable album here, and I suggest that everyone go out and get it immediately!
