November 14, 1908 - Joseph McCarthy was born in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.

1939 - McCarthy elected circuit-court judge.

1946 - McCarthy was elected Senator of Wisconsin.

1947 - President Truman set up loyalty boards to investigate government employees.

1948 - Marx and Engels come up with a modern form of Communism in their Communist Manifesto.

1950 - McCarthy attracted national attention when he accused the Department of State of harboring Communists.

1950 - McCarren Internal Security Act passed which barred any person into the United States from any Communist country or organization.

1953 - Eisenhower becomes president and is accused of treason by McCarthy.

1954 - McCarthy accused the Secretary of the Army of conceiling foreign activities.

1954-1957 - McCarthyism gradually declined due to the end of the Korean War (1953) and condemnation of McCarthy in 1954.

1955-1958 - The Supreme Court made of series of decision that helped protect people's rights against being accused of Communism.

May 2, 1957 - Joseph McCarthy died.
