Our Love Will Last
Part 1
By Gemma
Andie McPhee, all round star student, was pulling books from her locker and neatly placing them in her bag. Then she felt strong arms around her waist and a nuzzle on her neck.
"Hey, McPhee." It was her boyfriend Pacey.
"Hey Pace," she replied. "What’s wrong?" Pacey questioned immediately.
"Nothing," Andie lied. Pacey looked at her and raised his eyebrows. Well it was now or never she thought. "Um Pacey…..I’m late."
"Late for what?" This was going to be harder than she imagined. "My period," she mumbled.
"No your not Andie first period doesn’t start for another five minutes."
"No Pace, not first period, my period."
Pacey opened his mouth to speak but noticing his best friend Dawson walking towards them shut it again. "Morning guys."
Andie looked up to Pacey with tears in her eyes then turned to face Dawson. Dawson noticed Andie’s hurt look.
"Andie are you O.K.?"
Pacey grabbed her by the shoulders turned her to face him then shielded her from Dawson.
"She’s fine mate. Just her time of the month ya know. Anyway there’s a math question she’s just going to help me on. So we’ll see ya later." Without waiting for Dawson’s reply Pacey gently pushed Andie into a nearby classroom and shut the door.
"Um Andie….are you pregnant?" Andie shrugged her shoulders, hung her head low and began to cry. Pacey took her into his arms and held her. "It’ll be O.K Andie. It’ll be O.K."
The last class of that day was Science. The class was watching a video on human reproduction. How ironic, Pacey thought. Andie had hardly spoken a word since that morning. This was so unlike Andie and their closest friends were quick to notice that she wasn’t herself but to their questions Pacey replied with the same words. "Just her time of the month." He hated lying to their friends but he didn’t want to worry them besides they weren’t even sure themselves yet. The video distracted the teacher which left Pacey free to toss Andie a note.
Andie was lost in thought when she saw the folded up paper with her name on the top. She unfolded the note and read it. It said; Andie we need to know the truth. After class we’ll drive to the store and get one of them tests. My house is empty. We’ll go there and do the test. Don’t worry. Whatever the outcome is we’ll be together. Pacey. I love you. Andie turned to him and nodded. She loved Pacey with all her heart and knew that he’d keep her safe.
Andie and Pacey drove to the store in silence. Pacey was driving and Andie was staring out the window. He had tried to make conversation with her but when she made no effort to speak he had given up and switched on the radio. Pacey pulled into the parking lot got out of the car and ran round the other side to help Andie out.
"I can get out of the car myself. We don’t know I’m pregnant yet." Pacey could see she was scared and reached for her hand. "Don’t push me away Andie. I love you."
They walked in hand in hand and scanned the aisles. "So where do they keep these tests then?"
"Oh Pacey let me think where were they last time? Oh that’s right I’ve never been in this situation before."
"I’ll just ask someone."
"You dare Pacey. We’ll look first." They found the tests, paid for one then made their way to Pacey’s house.
"Right Andie you know where the bathroom is, I’ll make us a coffee." Andie went into the bathroom and did the test. When she reentered the kitchen Pacey was biting his fingernails sat at the kitchen table.
"We have to wait five minutes then if it turns blue I’m pregnant, if it stays pink I’m not.," she told him. When five minutes was over Andie reached for the stick.
"It’s blue Pace……We’re going to have a baby."
