John Levi Billington

My 15th Texas Cavalry Ancestor was John Levi Billington. John signed up in 1862, but only for a year. He was with the unit up until they dismounted. John apparently avoided capture at Arkansas Post or was actually able to escape as well. In 1863 he signed up with the 12th Texas Cavalry for a 3 year hitch and participated in the Little Rock Campaign as well as the Red River Campaign. John was born October 26, 1829 in Bedford County Tennessee. John married Louise Kimbrough in Kentucky in 1851. When he enlisted, he was 33 years old. John died in Parker County Texas June 16, 1895 and is buried in Markley Cemetery, Markley, Texas
