James Madison Dunlap

From Humphries County, Tennessee in the mid 1850's James Marion Dunlap, born March 10, 1828 in Humphries County, came to this area. Possibly he followed his brother, Robert, and family. Robert was a Presbyterian minister, who, later, moved to Fannin County.
Here he met and married on May 15, 1851 Amanda Lee Parker, born March 14, 1829. In 1859 they bought a large farm on the western boundary of the Burch farm. James enlisted in the Confederate Army February 17, 1862 as 4th Sergeant of Fitzhugh Regiment. Amanda was left with the farm to manage and several small children to raise. After his return James farmed and acted as a Justice of Peace. To this couple seven children were born.
They were:

VII. JAMES PATTON DUNLAP was born Feb. 27, 1871 and married Lou Wall Dec. 11, 1890. He died June 28, 1922.
Following the death and burial of James on June 12,1886 at the old Murphy Cemetery, Amanda, or "Granny" as she was called, moved in with her oldest son, Bob, and family. She was remembered as a thin, wrinkled, old lady who always wore a starched, clean, white apron and a little white cap. She usually sat at one corner of the hearth in a large rocking chair, smoking a pipe.
Amanda Parker Dunlap passed away November 22,1907 and is buried in the Wylie Cemetery.
