Thomas Jefferson Mullican

Thomas Jefferson Mullican
Born: Casey County KY 9 Feb 1840
Died Bristol (Ellis County) 19 Dec 1921
Buried: Union Hill Cemetery (just outside Bristol) with a military gravestone

Following information concerning his military service is taken from his Soldier's Application for Pension:
In March 1862 in Rockett (Ellis County) joined Capt. Frank Farrar's Company, Company H 18th TX Cavalry. Sent to Dallas and became a part of Darnell's Regiment.
At Pine Bluff Arkansas, the greater part of the Regiment was captured and the rest became Co. D Charlie Morgan's Battalion. He was also at Bank's Raid and Yellow Bayou. Not sure of any other battles. Sent home due to illness and was at home on furlough when the war ended. As far as I can tell from what I have, he was not captured at Pine Bluff.

According to records from the then War Dept. Adjutant General's Office:
T.J. Mullican, private, Captain Farrar's Company, Darnell's Regiment
Texas Volunteers (subsuquently Company H, 18th TX Cavalry and Company D Morgan's Regiment Texas Cavalry), CSA, enlisted 10 Feb 1862.
On muster roll for Sept. & Oct. 1863, last roll on file, he is reported present.
No later record of him has been found.

On his pension application there are two statements from fellow soldiers attesting to his having served and him being sent home on furlough due to illness.
He was married 3 times, 23 Oct 1861, 9 Sep 1869, 8 Sep 1887. A total of 19 children. His first two wives died after they were married.
