Robert P. Wingate

WINGATE, ROBERT P., (Plot 3; Evergreen Cemetery), Born” 1846. Deceased: 1923. Enlisted in the service of the Confederate States of America, on the 16th day of July, 1862, and served “Honorably” as a “Private” in Company “A” of Terry’s Texas Rangers Regiment, “Scouts”, “Infantry”, C.S.A. He was at his time of enlistment a resident of Newton County, Texas. He was “Honorably discharged from said Confederate service on the 25th day of May, 1865, by being “Disbanded”. At which time he held the rank of “Private”. (Obtained from “Southern Cross of Honor” application…his writing). Applied for a Confederate pension from the State of Texas.
