W.J. Lewis

LEWIS, W. J., (Plot 2; Evergreen Cemetery) (Grave not Marked), Born: 1843. Deceased: 1908. Enlisted in the service of the Confederate States of America, in September, 1861, and served “Honorably” as a “Private” in Company “A”, “A. W. Spaight’s Battalion”, “Cavalry”, “Texas Volunteers”, C.S.A. He was at his time of enlistment a resident of Orange County, Texas. He was “Honorably” discharged from said Confederate service in May, 1865, by Colonel A. W. Spaight at Liberty, Texas. At which time he held the rank of “Private”. (Information obtained from “Southern Cross of Honor Application”…his writing). Received a Confederate Pension from the States of Texas. Pension # 10175. (note: Company “A” was formed in Jefferson County (Sabine Pass), Texas.)
