TeleVOID
Additional Information and Reviews

Scott Rockenfield and Paul Speer came up with an equally fitting name to call themselves for this project ... "TeleSpy". Scott plays the drums (gee, you think?) and keyboards and Paul plays the guitar and keyboards as well. All music on TeleVoid was co-written by these two guys except for "Chasing Blue Sky" (Scott Rockenfield and Geoff Tate). On TeleVoid, "Chasing Blue Sky" is sung by a local Seattle blues artist by the name of "Blue" Jay Sanders.

TeleVoid Reviews

I will have my own thoughts of TeleVoid up here very soon. I'm also inviting everyone who has had the opportunity to hear this CD or seen the video to please do the same.

In the meantime, why don't you go here to read a review by Dan Birchall of Screaming in Digital.

A short review here by Tom Jones as posted in SiD.

Another TeleVoid review as posted on the David Lanz/Paul Speer AOL Message Board by Laurie Koster.

I'm not much of a journalist, but I thought I'd post my comments about this masterpiece from my favorite guitarist/engineer/producer and my favorite drummer (okay - so I'm slightly biased.

As a fan of Paul Speer's music (w/ and w/out David Lanz) and a fan of Queensryche (Scott Rockenfield), I couldn't wait to hear and see these two artists combined in TeleVoid. As usual, Paul never ceases to amaze me in his experimentation and mastery of all types of music. He has such a sense of where the music should take the listener, how it should sound, how it fits together. Paul warned that this Video/Soundtrack would have a harder edge than what we're used to with his work with David Lanz. That it does. But not in a "hard rock" sense. It's like - I have seen and heard the future and it is Scott Rockenfield & Paul Speer. Each piece is so different than the one before it. And each video portion fits the music so perfectly. If one is familiar with the Mind's Eye series, you can get an idea as to what the visuals are in this TeleVoid video. However, from what I recall of the other videos, this has more of a story/theme behind it than just computer animation. I can't get over how much time and talent is involved with the graphics. It's just incredible what they can do! And we get a peek at Paul and Scott in action too!

As for the music itself--there's jazz, fusion, electronic, ambient, rock - even a rap song (Mind Suck) featuring Sir Mix-A- Lot which surprisingly I absolutely loved--part of the reason being Paul's trademark guitar work and Scott's hard-driving drumming techniques just make you want to "move" when you listen to it. Another song was a Queensryche piece called Chasing Blue Sky which Scott originally wrote the music for. Blue Jay Saunders does great work with this.... And the harmonies are fantastic!

Well, needless to say.... I'm quite impressed with both the video and the CD of TeleVoid. Although a previous review mentioned it might not be music to relax to, I would have to disagree. I've found myself cruising along the highway listening to it all, totally immersed in thought, getting lost in it all, and the cares just seem to float away. I don't know, that's quite relaxing to me.

Thanks Paul & Scott!
