A sawmill was biult at Doucette in the early 90’s by Hargiss, Doucette and McCready. Hargiss sold his interest to Doucette and McCready. In 1896 Fred Doucette was killed in a boiler explosion: and his brother, ete Doucette, was co-owner of the mill unit until it was sold to Emporia Lumber Company about 1903. A Post Office was established there in 1893 and William McCready was te first Postmaster. The town was named for the Doucettes. The explosion that killed Fred Doucette also claimed the lives of six other men. Emporia Lumber Company operated the mill until 1906 when it was sold to Thompson Brothers. All holdings of Thompson Brothers were sold about 1912 to the Fidelity Lumber Company, predecessor of Long-Bell Lumber Company. International Paper Company acquired Long-Bell Lumber Company in 1956.
