FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Jamie Story, Miss Arlington, was crowned the new Miss Texas on Saturday night. She will represent Texas in the Miss America pageant Sept. 18, in Atlantic City, N.J. Story, a 23-year-old graduate of Rice University, succeeds Miss Texas 2003, Sunni Cranfill, who was Miss Amarillo Area. First runner up was Miss Fort Worth, Lindsay Kellum. Story double majored in mathematical economic analysis and sport management at Rice. Her talent was Mendelssohn's "Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor," and her platform was "Instant Access: Removing Barriers to Higher Education." The Miss America pageant is the world's largest scholarship program for women. In 2003, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
Saturday's state pageant was conducted at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth.
