The Napoleon breed is a newer breed of cat (started around 1996).
To get a "Napoleon" two types of cat are breed: Munchkin & Persian.
A "Munchkin" is a breed of cat that has very short legs (kinda like a Basset Hound or Dachshund in the dog world)
Because Napoleons are breed from two types of cats, some kittens will be born with long legs like the Persian parent (called "Non-Standard" Napoleon). Some will have short legs like the Munchkin parent (these are called "Standard" Napoleon).
In 2002 Napoleons became recognized by the TICA as a "Registration Status" breed.
In September 2011 Napoleons were advanced by the TICA to "Preliminary New Breed" status.
In 2013 the Napoleon breed status was upgraded to "Advanced New Breed"! This is the second level of the Championship Advancement Class Program at the TICA!
Efforts are still being made to one day get them to full championship status...
