Metal Slug is a 2d shooter series created by SNK. The series was originally created for the Arcade and the Neo Geo. Metal Slug is similar to Contra but much more difficult and much more over the top. Also, in Metal Slug you can get vehicles, which are called Slugs. The Metal Slug is a special tank that can jump and is the original vehicle in the series.

Metal Slug X

Metal Slug X is an update to Metal Slug 2. In addition to Marco and Tarma two female soldiers named Eri and Fio join the fray. General Morden returns to try and take over the world, but he is not alone. Metal Slug X has been released for the Playstation.

Metal Slug 3

General Morden and the aliens are back in the best game in the series. This game has been released on the Xbox and the PS2. However, some players may not like that you can only continue five times in this game and that you have to start at the beginning of the level when you continue. You can actually continue twice on each level because you can start as the second player when the first player dies. Also I think this continue system makes the game more fun and challenging than having unlimited continues. When you beat Metal Slug 3 you will truely feel like you are a hardcore gamer who has accomplished the impossible. Beating the game unlocks two special modes, Fat Island and Storming the UFO where for thr first time you can play as the enemy soldiers.

Metal Slug 4

While not a bad game, Metal Slug 4 had the duanting task of following up Metal Slug 3. Taken in this context Metal Slug 4 is a dissapointing game, but one that will grow on you after the initial dissapointment wears off. General Morden is back again without the aliens this time. Eri and Tarma act as support in this and are essentially replaced with two new characters Walter and Nadia. This game is almost more of a sequal to Metal Slug than Metal Slug 3 and is a sort of tribute game to past Metal Slug's since fans will experience a sense of deja vu when playing this game.

Metal Slug 5

This is the game Metal Slug 4 really should have been. Metal Slug 5 features all new villians and the return of Eri and Tarma as playabale characters. A great new Slug is added to this game as well called the Slug Gunner which is a transforming slug mech that has a robot mode and a tank(Metal Slug) mode.

Metal Slug 4 & 5 are available together on the Xbox and PS2 in the US. Players have infinite continues in both games as opposed to the system used for Metal Slug 3.

Metal Slug 6
This game was just announced in August of 2005. It appears the aliens from Metal Slug 3 will be returning. A surprising addition is that of Ralf and Clark from Ikari Warriors/King of Fighters as playable characters. This game looks great so far and is highly anticipated bye fans.

Metal Slug Anthology
A Metal Slug Anthology containing all the games including Metal Slug 6 is coming out on the Sony PSP, PS2 and the Nintendo Wii on 11/14/06.
