Sylvia Spade-Kershaw is a "naturalized" Texan and has been a citizen of Austin since 1979. An Honors business graduate of The University of Texas, she's also an alumna of ten years with IBM Marketing in Austin. Other interests include being a Court-Appointed Special A dvocate (CASA) for children in the Travis County foster care system, and an active advocate for the elderly and disabled.
A published author, syndicated columnist, and public speaker, Sylvia's first book, "Discounts & Good Deals for Seniors in Texas (Starting at Age 50!)" , was published by Gulf Publishing Company, Houston, Texas.
It's the first (and only) directory of over 3,000 senior citizen discounts (from 10-70% discounts), good deals, and free stuff for age 50+ persons living in or traveling through the Lone Star State. In 495 Texas towns and cities in 25 different business categories, it gives specific details about discounts, the age one qualifies, specifically when and where in Texas the discounts are offered, and gives Internet addresses and toll-free phone numbers where available.
In May, 1998 the Houston Chronicle (over half-million circulation) began carrying her column, "Discounts & Good Deals" in their "50 Plus" section the last Friday of the month. This syndicated column also has appeared in numerous other fine newspapers and magazines with a current circulation of more than 1 million readers.
