Curving prominence cavity and nearby coronal hole both appear as dark shadows in a coded picture made in ultraviolet light from the hot corona. The curved cavity at left was excavated by refrigeration by a "quiescent prominence" that still lies hidden within it.
These pictures in ultraviolet expose the hiding Prominence. This picture was taken by the astronauts on the Skylab space station on July 2, 1973. It is located on page 112 in the book entitled "A NEW SUN The Solar Results from Skylab" by John A. Eddy.
