This Mother's Day I was reminded of just how wonderful my four children are. Each one exhibits their own uniqueness and their "familial grounding" at the same time. God has truly blessed me. As a mother, my heart is broken at times. The knowledge that God's love is always there carries me through my temporary heartaches. The music playing is "Thy Word" (lyrics are printed below). After having given birth four times, I can sincerely say that God was with me on each occasion (and many, many times thereafter). I have felt his presence during times of family strife, illness, and at joyful celebrations. I continually give thanks to God for blessing me with a wonderful husband and four incredible children.

It was wonderful to have the entire family in worship together on Mother's Day. With Ronny giving the sermon, and he and Burl serving communion together, my day was especially joyful. The sadness I feel as Ronny departs for a new ministry in another state is eased (somewhat) by the immense gratitude I feel for having been privileged to share in his ministry during the past three years. A mother's love for her children is something that never diminishes no matter what their age. My children have all grown into adulthood, but in my heart they are and will continue to be my "precious gifts" sent directly from heaven. God sent these gifts with the following instructions: "Love, Nurture, and Cherish Forever."

God's Grace Is Beautiful

As you may have guessed by now, I love flowers and purple is my favorite color. Violets and orchids are my favorites and, of course, roses in any color. I love them all. This Mother's Day as I looked at the beautiful flower arrangements I received from my children, I could not help but remember how they used to bring me tiny flowers from our yard. The small flowers were usually exquisite, and they always adorned our dining table (after being placed in a juice glass). As adults, we step on these beautiful creations in the grass without a thought, but children see them in all their natural beauty. That is just one example of how to view the world through the eyes of a child. They instinctively see beauty that we so easily overlook. God has blessed mothers in a special way as we are privileged to see the world through the loving eyes of our children.
