Storms from Previous Years

Page 1

On some of the these, I can't find the dates of these storms as most of them were photographed while actively spotting for the NWS. Where possible I have tried to include the date.

Storm north of Littlefield, 1995 or 1996?
This storm did not produce any tornadoes, but was a strong hail producer, with golfball size and larger produced northwest of Littlefield.

From Littlefield,  ragged base with scud 'funnels'.

Storm southeast of Muleshoe, 1995 or 1996?

This cell, forming just after the Littlefield storm above, passed over the city of Muleshoe and produced a short-lived tornado in southeast Bailey county according to several other spotters. I did not see it as I was directly under the first reported position and I became quite busy trying to get out of the way.  Unlike the more normal storm above, this supercell was moving southeast and the tornado as in most of these northwest flow storms was weak and brief.  I don't believe confirmation was done on this tornado.  Most of the activity was after sunset.  This shot was done during repositioning from the Littlefield storm to the Muleshoe area.

Storm southwest of Shallowater, 1997.

Here are two shots of a rather ominous though ragged wall cloud which formed southwest of Shallowater in rural Hockley County.  It was persistent with some vertical motion, but little rotation if any and only fair inflow winds, if I remember correctly.

Storm northwest of Levelland, 1997.

This high based wall cloud was photographed on a northwest flow storm day with numerous cells competing for dominance.  Eventually a single storm would dominate and move south southeast toward Brownfield in Terry County.  This storm is documented on the next page.
