Dale "Lurch" Wilkens & Aaron Leyda's "Hemi Hunter" Outlaw Fuel Altered

TEAM INFORMATION:

2010 OFAA Rookie of the Year
2010 World Fuel Altered Nationals Winner

Owner/Driver - Dale Wilkens & Aaron Leyda
Driver Bio - I (Dale) started racing in 1975, while in the U.S. Army. When I was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas I started racing a 1970 Z28. I raced twice a week and drove anything from bikes to Volkswagens. I stared back up in the mid 1980's with a front engine 165" Rod Stucky. I had a lot of success bracket racing and racing in AHRA Top Comp.

After winning four big races in a row at a local track, I hit the road finishing seventh and third in the Championship Bracket Racing Association in 1987 and 1988. I bought my first altered in 1989. The blown altereds were always my favorite racecars, so I built one in 1996 to bracket race. We won the first Outlaw Fuel Altered event and have been to a number of final rounds since. I competed in three events in Jim Kelly's car, then built my own in 2004. I had a bad car wreck which took a long recovery process, meanwhile crew chiefing for a number of teams before 2009 when we brought out the new "Hemi Hunter" with my new driver Aaron Leyda.

I own a large and very successful general auto repair business on a five acre lot, with two buildings and seven employees. I build race motors and I have shipped a blown BBC to Austrailia before. I'm a pilot, aircraft owner, airframe and power plant mechanic. My airplane won Best Cessna 182 at Oshkosh, Washington in 2003.
