Jones Scores Second Straight Win
at Thunder Valley Raceway

The Painless Performance Products Outlaw Fuel Altered Association thundered into Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Oklahoma for the second points race of the 2015 season under hot and humid conditions. It was impressive enough that this event was able to be held after just a few days before, the TVRP facility had suffered extensive flooding for the second time this year. Hard work and dedication by Larry Croft, Nick Duty and the rest of the staff was greatly appreciated by the OFAA racers and fans who packed the pits ready to do some fuel altered racing on a hot Saturday night in central Oklahoma.

Qualifying Highlights:

(Terry Brian)

(Ken Singleton)

The first session of qualifying was highlighted by Terry Brian's 3.91 at 190 mph in the "Nitro Warrior" entry. Ken Singleton clicked off a strong 4.02 in the "High Risk" machine and was followed by Donny McSwain, Jimmy Jones, Eric Buchanan and Mary Reep who all laid down 4.0 passes right off the trailer. In the second and final session, Donny McSwain brought everyone to their feet when the "Wild One" got out of shape and made firm contact with the wall flattening the header on the car and taking it out of competition. McSwain was uninjured but done for the day. Bobby Marriott was able to step up to a 4.07 as was John Broussard. Ken Singleton was sitting atop the qualifying charts until the second to last pair of the round, when Mary Reep stole the top spot with a 4.01 at 164 mph in the 4.00 qualifying system used in the OFAA series. This was Reep's first pole position of the season and she would lead the field into final eliminations.

(Anthony Whitfield)

Donnie Massey's "Showtime" and Anthony Whitfield's "Mighty Mouse" came to the starting line to open the all important first round of eliminations, where the two quickest winners would advance to the final. Massey had been off pace but managed a 4.09 at 175 mph to take the win over Whitfield's 5.29. Bobby Marriott stepped up to his best pass of the event with a 4.05 at 176 mph to notch a win for team "Shockwave" over DoDad Burton's 4.30 at 161 mph in "Free Spirit". Defending series Champion John Broussard snuck past top qualifier Mary Reep as Broussard's 4.03 at 173 mph took out a quicker but losing 3.96 at 180 mph.

(DoDad Burton)

(John Broussard)

As eliminations continued, Mark Bowman used a 4.28 in the "Blown Income" to get the win over a red lighting Eric Buchanan driving Terry Darby's "Nitro Relapse". Jimmy Jones and the always tough "Texas Tremor" fired up next along side Raymond Dawson. Jones left first and never trailed as his 3.92 at 183 mph secured a spot in the final round over Dawson's 5.24. In the final pair, Terry Brian and Ken Singleton did battle with Brian clicking off a 3.77 at 193 mph but fouled out to Singleton's 5.39 at 89 mph. So Jones and Broussard would advance to the final round. The last four OFAA Championships held between them, this one looked stellar on paper and was sure to be a side by side three second showdown for the title at Thunder Valley.

It was all blown alcohol all the time in the final round at Noble as Jones and Broussard fired up their machines for the final bout of the night. As they crept to the line, it was anybody's race with Jones the veteran holding a performance advantage over Broussard who is always killer on the starting line. At the flash of amber, Broussard took a slight lead, but by half track Jones had closed the gap and they were side by side wide open in a race to the stripe. The scoreboards lit up with the win light to Jones as his 3.93 at 182 mph narrowly defeated Broussard's 3.98 at 177 mph in phenomenal final round race.
