Gifs are graphics.

Gifs can be added to your home page or e-mail.
Gifs can be anything from mail icons to animated cartoon characters.
There is a html code to make your pages display any gif and as many as you want.
Linking to some sites if approved by owner is okay.
However it is best to Transload all gifs.
Transloading also decreases your loading time.
If you just link you might be costing someone else money...
