Below is a map of the new extension of Fry Road, north from Cypress Springs High School near 529 to U.S. 290 near Cypress, TX. This is a four lane divided parkway across open pastureland, and is the only north-south route connecting the Katy area and 290 between Katy-Hockley Road and Barker Cypress Road.
Notice that Fry Road becomes concurrent with Cypress Rosehill Road at 290, so essentially the Fry Road corridor is uninterrupted from northern Fort Bend county, across western Harris County, almost to the Montgomery County line.
Real estate development seems to be a driving factor in completing the Fry Road extension. The BlackHorse Ranch development and golf course is at the north end of this extension. The massive planned new development called Bridgelands will extend from about the center of the new road shown on this map, westward perhaps beyond the edge of the map to near Katy-Hockley Road. There are a few roads and houses that are already in place in this area near the new Fry Road as of mid-2005 which may be the first new sign of this development.
This road is not on any published maps at this time, and likely will not be until 2006. Enjoy this preview of the new Fry Road extension!
