The map below shows the new southern extension of Sh360 in the southern D/FW metro area. I created these bright red tracks illustrating the lanes of 360 from my GPS unit, recording my track as I drove northbound and southbound on 360. The extreme southern extent, from far SE Tarrant County into NW Ellis County, is a new section of 360 that was just opened in September 2003.
As indicated by the wider gaps at intersections with major roads, for now the roads comprising Sh360 South are the future access roads for this highway. And in fact, the extreme southern part of 360 is only a 2 lane road, with one lane in each direction for now, which will eventually become the northbound access road. Note that my southbound route was recorded before the opening of the southern extension, so at that time I had to drive on FM 661 through the small community of Britton to meet Highway 287.
I wanted to post this map here since I have not seen any other maps showing this route online, particularly the new southern extension to 287. Hopefully this will be helpful to those considering making a drive on 360, to know exactly where 360 intersects 287 now. And for what it's worth, this map was created using Maptech Professional, using a 1:100000 topographic map dated 1985. Joe Pool Lake, which extends along Mountain Creek from near I-20 to near Britton now, had not been constructed yet. So although Sh360 South appears to traverse just empty farmland on this map, it should serve as the main access route to many upscale residential developments on the west side of this lake, in addition to being a useful link with 287 to the south.
