The Beginning of Metallica
Many years ago, a guy named Lars Ulrich moved from his home in Denmark to Las Angeles. In 1981, Lars was looking to start a band so he looked up prospective band members in a Las Angeles magazine, in which, his name was also listed. Lars looked under "H" for Heavy Metal. Only two names were listed, himself, and a young guy by the name of James Hetfield. They got together, found a bassist named Ron McGovney, and a Lead Guitarist, Dave Mustaine.Mettallica (No this isn't a typo) on the Bay Area Thrash Metal Scene
The band moved up to San Fancisco, where they began their thrash metal revolution and gained a large following of people. A record store owner by the name of Jon Zazula, one of these followers, fails in his attempt to get a record contract for the band. Still wanting the rest of the country to hear Metallica, he founds his own record label called "Megaforce," with Metallica as his first band. The band created their "No Life 'Till Leather Demo" (1982), and worked on their "Metal Up Your Ass" album. The record distributors would not have anything to do with an album with such a name so Metallica changed the name of the album to "Kill 'Em All," which means "Kill all the record distributors." In May of 1983, the album was recorded and later released in the same year.Meanwhile...Two New Band Members
Just before Metallica began recording Kill 'Em All, James and Lars decided to fire Ron McGovney and replaced him with the bassist with lightning fast fingers, Cliff Burton. Cliff was everything you could want in a bassist. Dave Mustaine, on the other hand, had sunk into a bad drug habit, which the band members didn't like. Metallica was just itching for a reason to fire Dave when one day, Dave brought his two pit bulls to the recording studio. James, who was pissed of at Dave's attempt to look cool, kicked one of the dogs, and Dave decked him. Cliff, who was behind Dave, jumped on his back, and was thrown, by Dave, across the room, and onto a TV. All the while, Lars, who had stayed out of the fight, was shouting "F!@# man!! It wasn't supposed to end this way man!!!" With the termination of Dave Mustaine (Who, as everyone knows, founded Megadeth), James was able to find a replacement lead guitarist by the name of "Kirk Hammet," from a band named "Exodus."Hit the Lights
