The Military Police Investigations (MPI) is similar to what would be a detective in the civilian world. The Army has two forms of "detectives" that handle two separate areas of the criminal case load. The Investigator is responsible for offenses which carry less than one year in prison, while, the Agent, of the Criminal Investigations Detachment(CID), handles all offenses that carry more than one year in prison. This divider is a general rule between the two and is not strictly adhered to...with the Investigator handling some major offenses. MPI Duties include:
- Evidence Detection, Gathering , and Analysis
- Interviews and Interrogations (Subject, Victim, Witness)
- Report Writing
- Surveillance Procedures
- Crime Scene Processing
- Fingerprinting
- Photography
